Meyer of McHenry will be among the 200 volunteers and staff who will be in attendance at the two-dtiy annual meeting of United Cerebral Palsy of Illinois. The meeting will take place at the Joliet Holiday Inn tm Sept. 23rd and 24, with registration beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Mrs. Boehm has been a member of the executive'committee of the association for six years and Mr. Meyer is a repress!!- ' tative on the board of directors. Hie theme of this year's conference is "Cerebral Palsythe Second Step-A Place To Live" and will cover the topic of determining the needs for long term and short term emergency care for the multiply handicapped in the state of Illinois. The principal speakers of the two-day session will include Dr. Meyer A. Perl stein, prominent pediatrician from Chicago; Dr. Isabel Robinault, coordinator of professional activities from the United Cerebral Palsy Associations, Inc., in New York; Senator Paul Simon, Democrat from Troy, 111., talking about the accomplishments of the Illinois 75th General Assembly in its efforts to help the handicapped and the multiply handicapped in the stalk. Some special ^Verits which will take place during the annual session will include the Illinois premiere showing of the United Cerebral Palsy film "The Computer I." Hostesses and Hosts will be at the session representing the adult camp program, Project Preview, day care centers and summer day schools and camps. Representing McHenry county as host for the adult camp at Little Grassy Lake, Carbondale, 111., will be William Nichols, 29, from Fox River Valley Gardens who, in spite of being cerebral palsied and confined almost full time to a wheel chair, attends adult camp every summer for two weeks. The public is cordially invited to attend, to see for themselves the many programs and services which are offered to the physically handicapped children and adults of the stateand to see first hand the number of volunteers who have dedicated their lives to working for this cause. The two physically handicapped classrooms (one grade school and we high school) this year have a registrati6n of ten students each. The rooms are both located in Crystal Lake and are taught by Nflss Eleanor Allison, the grade school class, and David Barker the high school class. Mrs. Giselle Higgins will continue her position of handling the physical therapy for students in both classes. AUXILIARY NEWS The Sept. 11 meeting of tfte ladies auxiliary to VFW Post 4600 was called to ordar by President Ethel Groth. Secretary Betty Heard read the minutes of the previous meeting and then went on to read the highlights from the minutes of the VFW Department. of Illinois convention which was held in Springfield on June 23, 24 and 25. One highlight that I would like to mention here is on membership; there are over 30,500 membars in the Department of Illinois auxiliary. There are also many other interesting highlights. I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of all the. members, to welcome Dorothy Thorp back in membership of our auxiliary. Betty Byro, junior vice-president of the 5th district, v?SB welcomed at our meeting by the members. The annual inspection of our auxiliary was made at this time by Betty for the 5th district. It was a pleasure to have her attend our meeting. June Schmunk, membership chairman, reported on the awards available to both tile auxiliary and members. A total 100 percent membership reported by our auxiliary by Feb. 1, 1968, can earn a streamer for ouf banner. The member who recruits the most new and re-instated members can earn a victory figure. The auxiliary which recruits the most new and re-instated members can earn a large plaque with emblem. June Schmunk also reminded everyone of the 1968 membership kick-off dinner which will be held on Monday, Sept. 25,, at the clubhouse. Tti^ dtfly requirement for attending this dinner is your paid-up 1968 membership card. You may pay your dues the night of the dinner. or in advance to Treasurer Marge Moreth. To date there are approximately one-third of the members who have paid their dues for next year. Marge Moreth, "Voice of Democracy" chairman, reported that literature on the contest is now available at the high school and anyone interested may obtain same there. Ethel Groth, in calling on chairmen for reports, announced the poppy chairman would be Gerry Breede. Sunshine Chairman Florence Tussey had sent a sympathy card to the Clabor family, and had also sent get-well cards to Bill Abbink, husband of our conductress, Vi Abbink, and a card to Dora Krocker, who is hospitalized in Harvard hospital. A special get-well wish to Dora so that she may. be able to attend our membership kick-off dinner. The ways and means report was given by Genevieve Bradley for Ethel Groth, Ways and Means chairman. In this report Genevieve reported on a funeral luncheon which was served in August, which is a community service given by the ladies of the auxiliary. Ila Hogan, National Home chairman, reported that she had sent birthday cards to four of the children who reside at the National Home in Eaton Rapids, Mich. Gerry Breede reported on the filling of Ditty Bags for service men in Vietnam. Through a cash donation from the Women of the Moose in McHenry and our own organization it was possible to fill twenty of those bags, each containing the following items; plastic snapshot folder, I.D. case, cigarette lighter and flints, wash cloth, oil skin pouch, toothbrush in plastic case, package of envelopes, writing paper, paper-back book and playing cards. The bag were turned Over to the American Red Cross for shipment over seas in time for Christmas. Correspondence read by the secretary, Betty Heard, informed members of the 5th district membership kick-off dinner which will be held on Nov. 18 at Tioga Post 2149 in Bensenville. Remember our next regular meeting will be on Monday, Sept. 25, and it will be our membership kick-off dinner. See you there. LAND BANK*MEETING Directors of the Federal Land Bank association of Woodstock have set Saturday, Nov. 4, as the date for the association's annual meeting of its members, according to Robert E. Coots, manager. The meeting will be held at the Marian Central Catholic high school. An evening dinner and entertainment are planned, in addition to the business session.
