With instructions to drive carefully, obey traffic laws and stay within the boundaries of McHenry, Crystal Lake, Griswold Lake and Island Lake, ten cars, with two couples per car, departed. The following three to four hours were filled with confusion, telephone calls, frustration, searching, running, triumph, defeat and more phone calls. The hunt took them through ten clues before directing them to the Kasprzyk home for refreshments. Comparing experiences over hot beef sandwiches were the following couples; the Abbinks, Lundeliuses, Gabriels, Millers, Heises, Hamptons, Connells, Bodenheims, Kasprzyks, Wegener s, Kathans,Emersons,Mahons, Boettchers, Breedes, Hughes, Schmidts, Laskowskis, Do whins and Youngs. The winning couples were Donna and Con Kasprzyk, and Dee and Ron Wegener, coming in first and LaVon and Jim Dowhin and the Youngs coming in second. Three cheers for Midge and Don Teuber and Phyl and Jim Harper, who spent weeks doing all the preparatory work for an unforgettable and most enjoyable evening. Lorraine also had the opportunity to visit the Minneapolis hospitaL ASSOCIATION FOR DEAF OPENS NEW SEASON OCT. 3 " Tuesday, Oct. 3, will be the first meeting of the year for the Deaf Children of Lake and McHenry Counties Association of Parents and Friends. The meeting will be held at the Lake View Grade school, Route 120 and Lake street, in Grayslake at 8 pjn. The program will consist of a report from Miss Sarah Jane King, a child development teacher. Miss King took a trip last June to the International Conference on Oral Education of the Deaf in New York. Lawrence D. Vuillemot, director of special education of Lake county, will speak on the new legislation concerning special education. He will inform on how it will effect the program and the taxpayers. TO SCHOOLS FOR TRANSPORTATION Ray Page, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, has announced that 1,195 Illinois school districts will be reimbursed $9,562,503.34 to help defray the total cost of transportation of pupils to and from school during the 1966- 67 school year. Supt. Page reported that total cost to schools was $29,175,- 717.01 with the average.cost per pupil $50.59. Total miles traveled were 66,035,039 with the average cost per mile 44.- 18 cents. There were 610,253 pupils transferred daily to and from school, 567,628 of whom were public school pupils and 42,625 non-public school pupils. Of the 567,628 public school pupils transferred daily to and from school, 492,288 rode over a mile and a half and 75,340 jNipils rode teas than a mile and a half. Figures far the previous school year (1965-66) showed total cost of the program was $26,607,593.8^, of which the state reimbursement amounted to $9,095,180.62. Average cost per pupil was $51.12 ami the average cost per mile was 38.- 79 cents. There, were 520,449 pupils transferred to and from' school each day.
