PG. 4, SEC. 2- PLAINDEALER- OCT. 20, 1967 WONDER LAKE GAIL WILLIAMS 653-5371 KIWANIS CLUB WINS ATTENDANCE AWARD AT MEET The Wonder Lake Kiwanis Club won the attendance award at the District Convention. "The Illinois-Eastern Iowa District of Kiwanis International presented the attendance award to the Kiwanis Club of Wonder Lake for having the largest delegation, noted by size and distance in miles traveled to the I-I District Convention, Springfield, Oct. 3. This was inscribed on the plaque the Kiwanians Bill Cristy, Art Christopher, Bill Dick- . er and their wives along with Art Lau brought back from the convention. Each delegate gave a talk on the convention. The nominating committee headed by Bob Howe gave the following recommendations: President, Bill Cristy; First Vice-President, EM Heller; Second Vice-President, Art Christopher; Secretary, Bill Dicker; Treasurer, Phil Kinzer; and the directors, Guy White, Art Lau, Bob Howe, Lenny Freund, Jim Robison, Ward Ehredt and Gordy Gran. This slate will be voted on at the next meeting. Bill Cristy gave the final Peanut Day report showing a net of $950. Horace Wagner, reported on the Interclub held at Clinton, Iowa. Phil Kinzer, T.P. Mathews, Gordy Gran and Horace Wagner flew from Gait Airport for the dinner meeting at Clinton. Phil took along a case of peanuts and sold each member of the Clinton Club a bag. After the sale the Wonder Lake group donated the gross receipts to the Clinton Club's Children' s Fund. Tuesday, Sept. 26, was Ladies Night, for division 20 hosted by Dundee. Phil Kinzer, Ed Heller, Bill Dicker, Lennie Freund and their wives attended. Bob Myers reported the need of an interclub with Fox River Grove and the Sycamore Clubs before the year ends. Ward Ehredt presented the Boy Scout Charters for signatures. Bill Cristy and Art Christopher will be co-chairmen of the Farmer's night to be held in November. Our Battle Ax winner was present: Art Christopher. BIRTHDAY Happy birthday to Miss Cheri Elbersen who will be 14 years old (Hi Oct. 24th. NATIVITY LUTHERAN CiHURCH NEWS Dont forget the Men's Club Breakfast and Trap Shoot, Saturday morning, Oct. 21, at 8:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Breakfast will be "fit for a king" with plenty to eat. Following the breakfast the men of the church will hold a trap shoot. You do not have to have your own gun to participate. Next Sunday, Oct. 22, the motion picture film MARTIN LUTHER will be shown at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. Since this is the 450th anniversary of the Reformation we felt it would be fitting to show this inspiring and informative movie. There is no cost involved. Sunday, Oct. 29, will be the combined Reformation Hymn Festival at Zion Lutheran church, McHenry. The Senior and Youth Choir of each of the three respective Lutheran churches - Zion and Shepherd of the Hills, McHenry, and Nativity, Wonder Lake will sing. The time is 7 p.m. Thanksgiving Clothing Appeal, November 19-26. The annual clothing drive will be held during the month of November to give our neighbors across the seas warm clothing and bedding. HALLOWEEN PARTY Don't forget the Halloween party at St. Peter's hall on Tuesday,, Oct. 31, starting at noon. The committee is planning a smorgasbord of sixteen or more varieties of foods which will include meats, fish, casseroles, salads, cheeses, rolls, coffee and the traditional pumpkin pie. BOY SCOUT TROOP 145 The Wonder Lake Boy Scout Troop 145 participated in the fall jamboree held at Veterans Acres, Crystal Lake. There were thirty-eight boys from the Lake with the following adult leaders: John Doherty, Scoutmaster: Ward Ehredt, George Smutny and Jerry Palko. Bob Betts, Earl Betts and Jerry Palko helped haul the gear. Ward Ehredt was a judge of the campsites. Out of a possible 200 points the local troop scored 198points and brought home a blue ribbon. This is the culminating group activity following study of life in a small community. The children are sharpening their powers of observation while learning to make these maps. ^They are also deepening their appreciation of their own community and its resources. Miss Brlckley's first graders are getting aquainted with Nutnber Sets, a phase of Modern Math using numerals and words 1-10. The goals of this study areto be able to recognize the number of objects in a set rapidly without counting; to be able to match equal sets, sets greater than, less than, etc; to know sets have the same members or different members and to train the eyes well for recognizing math terms and signs. A teacher at Harrison for 12 years, Miss Brickley commented, "At this grade level, pictures appeal greatly to the children's eyes and with it is a coloring project, too.
