"The new law provides for the owners of guns to register, and does not provide for gun registration at all," the director explained. " Anyone who owns one or more guns, regardless of the type of gun, must be registered and possess a firearm owner's identification card which will be issued by the Department of Public Safety. Every gun owner must be registered by July 1, 1968 "the director said. ^ "In addition," the director said, "no gun of any kind may be transferred to any person within theStateof Illinois unless the transferee--the person to whom the gun or ammunition is transferred--has a currently valid firearm owner's identification card issued in his name by the department." RETAIN RECORD Director Randolph said that upon the, transfer of any firearm to any other person, the owner must keep a record of that transfer for a period of at least ten years, containing the date of the transfer, the description, serial number or other information identifying the firearm if no serial number is available on the firearm; and, if the transfer is completed within the State of Illinois, the transferee's (new owner) firearm owner's identification card number must also be included in the information retained by the seller. This particular rule does not apply to the transfer of firearm ammunition to federal marshals or the following: Members of the armed forces of the United States or the National Guard, while they are engaged in operation of their official duties; Federal officials while they are engaged in the operation of their official duties; Law enforcement officials while on their official duties; Nonresident hunters during the hunting season who have valid non-resident hunting licenses and while in an area where hunting is permitted (at Female dialed FejaioSo gMg) Weat®d Fe^oio GIRLS If you are tired of commuting long distances back and forth to work, we have clients in the northern suburbs who have attractive, well paying positions open if you can file, type, ,. take shorthand or, in fact, any type of clerical ability, PLEASE CALL MISS CATHY HOWARD OR MISS IRIS KELLY Immediately! NEW INFORMATION More detailed information on the new firearm owner's registration will be provided as plans are advanced toward actual registration. "One thing I would like to stress," Director Randolph said, "is the fact that every application for such a registration identification card must be accompanied by a recent photograph of the applicant. It would be convenient for the applicant to obtain a photo similar to those used on pass-ports," the director suggested. Other detailed information for the application will be provided as soon as the plans are completed for the start of registration, Randolph said. BLINK-POWER The human body has over 500 muscles, accounting for about half its weight. Marvels of precision machinery, muscles react instantly to signa.s from the brain. Through thousands of contractions a minute, they make it possible to laugh, frown, talk, chew, blink an eye or sprint across the street. Much has been learned about the way muscles work, but science is seeking no less than a detailed "t)!ueprint; Carrying on an intensive search the missing information are scientists at the Institute for Muscle Disease in New York, a research center sponsored by Muscular Dystrophy Associations of America. It is believed that understanding the complex mechanisms of muscle action may lead to effective treatment for major heart and arterial disorders, as well as crippling and often fatal diseases of the voluntary muscles. THE SAFETY SENTRY 10-25/10-27-67 Fire Safety In The Home Fire is still a major cause of death and injury in the home, in addition to destroying millions of dollars of property each year. A majority of fires in the home can be prevented, according to Sentry Insurance. Here are several tips to protect your family and your property: • Heating equipment, including furnace, chimney and flues, should be cleaned and overhauled by a professional yearly. Portable heaters should be maintained and placed away from combustible materials when in use. • Electrical appliances and wiring must be kept in top condition. Never, run extension cords under rugs or across nails. Use fuses of approved, adequate rating. • Matches and flammable liquids must be stored out of the reach of children. Never use these liquids for cleaning clothes, and be sure they are in marked containers. • Rubbish should not be allowed to accumulate--spontaneous combustion or accidental ignition can result. • Your fireplace should be completely "out" before you retire for the night. Empty ash trays in a separate metal container, not in trash cans. • Place fire extinguishers in key areas in the home--one in the kitchen, one in the garage, and one upstairs. You and every member of your family should be thoroughly familiar with escape routes--two from each room-- which can be followed in thev dark. Call fire department before attempting to put out the fire yourself.
