JOHNSBURG MEWS BETTY HETTERMANX 385 1296 COMPLETE HIKE FOR PHYSICAL FITNESS CLASS On Oct. 6, the eighth grade girls physical education class from the Johnsburg Public school, participated in a milelong walk and run. The twentyone girls began the event at the school and ran to Jak-Ana Heights. They then preceded north on Spring Grove road for approximately one mile. The group was split up at this point with four girls electing to go on. The four girls, Debbie Morrisette, Lyn Harrison, Penni Barnings and Janice Major continued their walk and run to the intersection of Spring Grove road and Ringwood road. This consists of some four miles. Penni Barnings finished first' and had to walk only twice for short periods. While these four girls continued, the remainder of the class returned to the school because of school patrol. The hike back to school took the girls through woods, across country and through town. The event lasted about one hour and ten minutes. This walk and run was an enjoyable deal for the girls, as they are now completing their test for the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness. Besides the four girls who ran the furtherest were; Claudia Bender, Kathy Byrne, Gail Bischoff, Eunice Blaha, Mary Dicks, Bev Kreider, Susan Leuth, Brenda Mc- Cleiian, Debra Nelson, Debra Olson, Kathy Pflug, Wanda Pulk, Ruth Remele, Marilyn Shultz, Reinette Strumidlowski and Lyn Thonn. The run was organized by Harry May, physical education director and Mike DeWolf, assistant football coach, both who also participated. FREUND-ETTEN VOWS EXCHANGED A lovely wedding united the former Mary Kay Freund and James Etten in Holy Matrimony on Oct. 14 in St. John's church. Hie new Mrs. Etten is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Freund and the grown is the son of the Clarence Ettens of Ringwood. A reception was held in their honor at the Mc- Hgnry Country club at & p.m. 1 far their friends and relatives. Alter a short honeymoon trip into Wisconsin, the newlyweds will take 19 residence near Richmond. In the weeks prior to the wedding, the bride was honored with three bridal showers. One was held in the home of Mrs. Clarence Young with all the relatives on the bride's side in attendance. The second shower at which the groom's side of the family were present was held in the home of Mrs. Ray Etten. Miss Sandy Berkley's home was the scene of the third shower at which all the co-workers of Mary Kay's were in attendance.^ Our very best of happy wishes to these young people who are just beginning a very important part of their lifie together. . DEATH SHOCKS ALL We in this vicinity were shocked to hear that Robert Nelson passed away last Satruday evening. Bob was well known in our area as he was a barber, both here and in Mc- Henry for many years. We can , not find words to ease the pain which his wife, Flo, must feel by his absence. All of us extend our heartfelt sympathies to her. FALL WEDDING UNITES YOUNG COUPLE Last Saturday afternoon, Patrick King claimed Janice Harrison as his beautiful bride. The ceremony uniting this young couple was performed in St. Mary's church at 2:30 p.m. Immediately following the church service, their many relatives and friends joined them in celebration of the joyous occasion in the American Legion "home. After their honeymoon, the newly married pair will begin their wedded life in a home m this area which they have worked on for many, many weeks. Pat is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank King of Dutch Creek Woodlands, while the new Mrs. King is the daughter of the Tom Harrisons of the Bay. Our sincerest best wishes to the new Mr. and Mrs. King for a most happy future together and may all their dreams come true. SUNDAY ENTERTAINING Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith of Johnsburg road spent a most enjoyable Sunday by being surrounded by family members. Dinner and supper were served to Mr. and Mrs. Einar Fossum of Rockford, Mrs. Edna Getschell, Mrs. Ann Doran and the Robert Zimmermann family of Beloit. Please take care of yourselves and don't forget the deadline for news is each £fQBdw>atooon*: ^ ^ GEORGE MRACHEK NAMED DISTRICT 40-8 HISTORIAN George Mrachek of 4206 Ponca, McHenry, was notified fay the Grande Cheminot of the second district, Grande Voiture D'Illinois of the 40 et 8, that he has received the appointment of Sous Grande Historian for the year 1967-68. The appointment was made by Grande Chef De Gare Maurie Cox of the Grande Voiture d* Illinois at the Grande Cheminot meeting held in Pontiac, HI., this last weekend. The appointment was requested by Grande Cheminot of the second district, H.J. Saynor, Sr. With this appointemnt, the MoHenry County Voiture boasts two white hats in their small membership. Three additional Grande committee appointments were also granted to members of Mc- Henry County Voiture 578. They are as follows: Legislative - Charles Frisch of Gary; Credentials - Orlo 'Lou' Rossberg of Wonder Lake; and Nurses Training - Lester 'Colonel' Siedschlag of Wilmot, Wis. These appointments to the members of Mc Henry County Voiture 578 were realized through the' fine activities and programs of the voiture under the leadership of Chef De Gare Passe George Mrachek during his term of office last year. Additonal honor was received by McHenry County Voiture at the Grande Cheminot meeting when a "special" appointment was requested by the Grande Chef and required the entire vote of the assmbly, which passed unanamously. It permitted an additional sous grande photographer of his choice for services to him personally during the year, the appointment was made to Voyage ur H. J. Saynor, who is of Voiture 5?8 and is serving the grande voiture as the Grande Cheminot of the second district. Voiture 578 has sponsored thirty-three nurses to date, all deserving residents of McHenry county and will hold its annual schlachtfest on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Huntley American Legion home, with funds to be used to give additional scholarships to McHenry county residents this coming year.
