Stanley Freund of McHenry was given special recognition this month for producing acorn yield of 152.4 bushels per acre. This is nearly double the state average corn yield for the past seven years. Altogether, Freund harvested 1,524 iiushels of No. 2 corn from a measured 10 acres for his 152.4 average. In producing his exceptional yield he used the single cross hybrid. Funk's G-4350, planted in 38 inch rows, with 23,- 000 plants per acre at harvest. He fertilized with 170 poinds of actual nitrogen, 104 pounds of actual phosphate and 120 pounds of actual potash per acre. R.C. Knoll of Woostoek, the corn dealer in this area, presented Freund with a Documented Yield Award following certification of his yield. COURT MIEFS Nicholas T. Benter of Lake Villa, appearing in the court of Magistrate William Gleason in McHenry this past week, paid $15 and $5 costs on a speeding charge and $10 and $5 for disobeying a stop sign. Max J. Zager of 4208 G. Lake Shore, Wonder Lake, was fined $20 and $5 costs for speeding. Arthur M. Buzzo of 530 Woodland drive, Crystal Lake, was fined $20 and $5 costs for speeding. Speeding was also the charge against Joan V. Brastad of 4526 Lakewood road, McHenry, who paid $22 and $5 costs. Richard E. Smith of Gary, Ind., was fined $10 and $5 for disregarding school bus signal. Darrell Baker of Rt. 1, McHenry, was fined $50 and $5 costs for speeding. The total for August, 448,615, included 331, 454 persons on Assistance to the Aged, Blind o r Disabled and Aid to Dependent Children eligible for assistance and medical care; 51,291 who received Medical Assistanceonly and 65, - 870 on General Assistance. The July total of 438,412 included 327,248 on As si stance to the Aged, Blind or Disabled and Aid to Impendent Children who were eligible for assistance and medical payments; 49,860 receiving Medical assistance only and 61,304 on General Assistance.- Id August, 1966 there were 403,12i persons receiving aid--320,999 receiving both assistance payments and medical services, 27,680 receiving Medical Assistance only, and 54,442 on General Assistance. The local caseload is as follows: Total, all programs, 713, $ 47,950; old age assistance, 216, $22,785; aid to dependent children, .293, $12,861; blind assistance, 4, $269; disability assistance, 59, $7,539; and general assistance, 141, $4,496. KICK-OFF DINNER SCHEDULED FOR WOMAN'S CLUB The Holiday Hills Woman's Club annual Kick-off Dinner will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8, Held at the Mahon home at i509 W. Channing. Adolph Bernstein^ 38 River Bluff road, Elgin, will be the keynote speaker for the kickoff. Bernstein has been a YMCA member for many years and is an active participant in the YMCA's physical fitness program, said O.-rinG.Thompson, canvass chairman. added a brand new baby girl to their family circle. Lisa Ann was born on Oct. 5 at Swedish Covenant hospital and weighed 8 lbs. 2 ozs. at birth. The other members of the Mullins family are Jimmy, 9, Michael, 7, Trina, 6, Theresa*, 5, and Cindy, 3. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE The 1967-68 Woodstock Fine Arts association annual fund and membership drive is in progress now. This year's cochairman, Walter Schuett, Sr. and Ray Wolf, are both association board members and are keenly interested in the cultural activities of Woodstock and dedicated to the WFAA's year-round program. Schuett is chairman of individual and family memberships while Wo'.f is chairman of the committees which will seek funds from business and industry. The latter solicitation will be made in January. News About ' Our Servicemen Marine Private Donald R. Stine, son of Mr. and Mrs. James F* Stine of 1625 N. Riverside drive, McHenryr completed two weeks of training under simulated combat conditions in the fundamentals of day and night patroling, em - ployment of infantry weapons, survival methods and assault tactics at this - Marine Corps base. This individual combat training is given every Marine after his graduation from recruit training. Taught by combat experienced non-commissioned officers of the infantry training regiment here, it prepares the young Leatherneck to become part of the Marine air-ground combat team. While in the field he was taught how to use hand grenades, a compass and the principles of map reading and land navigation. He learned how to detect and disarm mines and booby traps, and, while being exposed to live machine gun fire, he learned to advance safely from one point to another. From this course, he is scheduled to go on to more advanced training before being as signed to his permanent unit. Bruce C. Peck, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Manford E. Peck, HI, 1916 Orchard Beach, McHenry, received the silver wings of an Army aviator and was appointed a warrant officer Oct. 24 upon graduation from the Army Aviation school, Ft, Rucker, Ala. During the sixteen-week course, he was taught various fire techniques and tactical maneuvers for helicopters supporting ground troops in combat. He also received instruction in helicopter maintenance and survival techniques. Guest speaker for the evening was Martha Spratler, English teacher at Cary-Grove Jr. high school, Cary. Her informative and very interesting subject was in regard to public speaking.
