PG. 12, - PLAIN DEALER - NOVEMBER 24. 1967 SPEAKER OF INTEREST TO ADDRESS PUBLIC On Wednesday Nov. 29, Henry Alderfer will be a speaker of general interest to the community. His talk will start at 7:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium and deals with motivation, communication and time control. Businessman Virgil Pollock recently heard Mr. Alderfer talk and felt that his message was so well done and his delivery so good that it would be worthwhile to bring him to McHenry. There is no charge for the talk and everyone is welcome. Mr. Pollock commented that this event will be of particular interest to executives, professional men and people working in a supervisory capacity; however, the material is presented so that an average housewife or ^production worker could also benefit. Mr. Alderfer is the educational director for Combined Insurance Company of America. He has held this position for the past thirteen years. He came to the company from Mooseheart, where he was its educational director for a period of three years. He is a graduate of Muhlenberg college, Allentown, Pa., with a B.S. degree and he has received his M.A. from New York university. He has continued his education toward his doctorate degree. Mr. Alderfer, a number of years ago, started a series of classes, working with inmates in the various institutions of the state of Illinois. He has been teaching a course entitled "Guides for Better Living" to men and women at the House of Correction, Joliet, Stateville, Dwight (women) and Pontiac. Mr. Alderfer is listed in "Who's Who in American Education" and "Who's Who in the Midwest" and "International Biography". He has written numerous articles -for publication and has been a contributor of book reviews for Success Unlimited for the past thirteen years. He has lectured all over the United States and Canada on topics of motivational interest. Mr. Aldgrfer is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a Kiwanian (president of North Shore in 1958), and is a 32nd degree Mason. Approximately 40(^000 volunteer leaders supervise America's 4-H program. EXPAND RED CROSS "HOME VOICES" PROGRAM The "Voices From Home" program now under way under the direction of the McHenry county chapter of the American Red Cross has broadened its scope and can now include not only Vietnam servicemen's families but also overseas, servicemen's families living in McHenry county. Also any foreign exchange students in the county may avail themselves of this- opportunity to tape a record to their family at home. Appointments to make the records may be made by contacting the McHenry county Red Cross office at Woodstock and making a date for the record making which will be Friday, evening, Nov. 24 from 6 to 9, and Saturday, Nov. 25 from 9 Until noon and from 1 until 4 p.m. The same schedule of hours will be followed Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2. It is suggested that all messages be in a "happy mood" Some detail about the family, the animals, the crops or perhaps someone of the family sings or plays an instrument which will be of special importance to a serviceman. To assure the messages reaching their destinations prior to Christmas, it is suggested that appointments be made at once so this service can be carried out. Volunteers are lined iq> for using the tape recorders ancl an allowance of 30 minutes is given to make the records. All records will be made at the Red Cross office in Woodstock. POLICE CANDIDATE TRAIN State Police candidates from 40 Illinois cities are now Tn training at the State Police academy in Springfield. This is the first of a series of training classes scheduled until the 300-man quota authorized by the 75th General Assembly brings the trooper force to l,40O.r The 64 cadets will undergo a 16-week training course.
