REVOKE TWO \ LICENSES; FIVE ARE SUSPENDED The office of Secretary, of State Paul Powell has announced the revocation of the driver's license of Loren W. Fish of Crystal Lake and Gary A. Ritter of Woodstock for driving while intoxicated. Suspensions were ordered for John Fiali of 1012 N. Ridge, McHefiry, Frederick W. Krueger of Gary, William G. Lokey of Woodstock and William H. Treadwell, III of Algonquin for three violations and Elmer R. Schoon of Harvard for violation of curfew. Probationary permits have been issued to Linda E. Meyer of Gary and Lawrence A. Schlarb of Crystal Lake. Ee Wise Shop In McMemry Secretary of State Paul Powell has announced the publication of a booklet detailing changes in the law enacted by the General Assembly affecting motor vehicles. The 42-page booklet is called " 1967 Changes in Statutes Relating to the Ownership, Operation and Sale of Motor Vehicles" This service to law enforcement agencies, schools, libraries and the general public was initiated by Secretary Powell two years ago. The booklet has been distributed to the State Police, who are using it in their training academy, courts, state's attorneys, local police departments, safety organizations, high schools, public libraries and General Assembly members throughout the state, and is available to the public at no cost as long as the supply lasts. Among the principal changes in the law are the following: All drivers must be re-examined at least once every nine years, effective Jan. 1, 1969. The minimum age to qualify for a driver license is raisedto 18 years, except for those applicants 16 and 17 years old who have passed an approved driver education course, effective Jan. 1, 1969. Driver licenses will be classified as to the type of vehicle the individual is qualified to operate, and motorcyclists will have to take a special examination on a motorcycle, effective Jan. 1, 1969, and renting motorcycles to anyone who does not hold the motorcycle license is prohibited, effective Jan. 1, 1959. Effective Jan. 1, 1968, motorcycle passengers must ride astride the vehicle on the permanent seat or saddle, and only on motorcycles designed for two people; there must be handgrips and footrests for the passenger; operators and passengers must wear protective headgear, wear glasses, goggles or haVe a transparent shield; handlebars must be no higher than 15 inches above the seat, and the vehicle must have a rear view mirror. Effective now is a provision that motorcyclists must not pass between two vehicles proceeding in the same direction unless there is an unobstructed traffic lane available. The driver license fee, now $5, will "be increased to $8, effective Jan. 1, 1969.
