On Thursday, Nov. 30, over eighty McHenry high school students, members of the Student Council and the newly formed Student Action association, gathered to hear about the upcoming bond issues facing the voters of Districts 15 and 156. They heard Mrs. Inez Young and Mrs. Kathy Alvary, members of the Citizen's Adivsory committee, and Dr.Bergstrom, superintendent of the McHenry schools, discuss in detail the bond issue, and raised questions dealing with the proposals. After the discussion many of the students volunteered to work with the Citizen's Advisory committee and the boards of education for the passage of these important referendums. These students will serve as typists, car drivers, mailers, and telephoners, taking much pressure off the school administration and the citizen's committee in the two last weeks of the bond issue drive. These students proved that they are just as interested in quality education for McHenry as are their parents and are unselfishly volunteering their after- school and weekend hours to help achieve one of the major steps on the road to better education locally in the passage of these important bond issues. TULAREMIA, AND MAN The Illinois Department of Public Health records indicate that 3,829 persons have contracted tularemia (through Oct. 1, 1967). Human infections may result from direct contact with infected animals. While handling infected rabbit carcasses, the organism may enter through breaks in the skin of the hands. Therefore, infections are more common during the November to January hunting season. The hands of persons exposed to dressing or handling wild rabbits should be washed and disinfected at once. Thorough cooking of wild game meats is recommended, to destroy the causative organism.
