After the fourfold, enrollment was held for Edna Pickett, sponsored by Carolyn Sima and Margaret Krettler, sponsored by Paula Strossner. Canned goods are still needed for the needy baskets at Christmas. They can be dropped off at the Moose lodge any afternoon or bring to the next meeting on Dec. 19. The Women of the Moose helped to make the Dec. 2 spaghetti dinner a success. The kid's Christmas party is to be held on Dec. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Moose home and under parents' supervision. Social Service Chairman Nancy Strossner and her committee were in charge of the evening's refreshments and games were played, with many being recipients of gifts. Special award went to Florence Tussey. Barbara Rick was not present to receive the attendance award. The next meeting is Dec. 19 starting at 6:30, with a free chicken dinner to all women of the Moose members. Each member is to bring a $2 gift to exchange at the party following the meeting. The forthcQming Christmas party to be held at Alma Hueckstaedt's home was discussed. It was held Tuesday, Dec. 12. The auxiliary had two guest speakers on the forthcoming school bond issue. They were Dorothy Vick. and Vale Adams. Hostesses for the December meeting were Alma Huecksteadt and Shirleann Krich, Winner of the monthly prize was Kay Meyer. Due to the holiday the January meeting of the auxiliary will be held the second Monday of the month, Jan. 8, at the home of Eunice Tobey at 8 p.m. Hostesses for the January meeting Ire Estelle Katschke and Ida Legge. LADIES LEAGUE Held their regular meeting Wednesday, Dec. 6. After the business on hand was taken care of bunco was played. Winners were Jean Dember, Rose Zelenka, Sophie Paterson and Melody Brossman. Booby went to Viola Arbogast. The ladies will hold their Christmas dinner Saturday, Dec. 16. OUl/ SERVICEMEN Tom Schmitt left Monday, Dec. 4, for San Diego, Calif., to take his basic training with the Marines. His brother, Phil, who is also in! the Marines is now over in Viet Nam. Jim Kelley is now stationed at Ft. Sheridan. BIRTHDAY PARTIES On Saturday, Dec. 2, six little ladies and little gentlemen helped Donald Vornkahl celebrate his fifth birthday. They were Alice and Debbie Sebesta, Cindy and Doreen Rasbaugh and Dave Colberg andJeffery Counley. Then on Sunday, Dec. 3, Donald's grandfather and aunts and other adults helped him celebrate his birthday. He became a great big five years old Tuesday Dec. 5. Many happy returns, Donald. SILVER ANNIVERSARY On Tuesday, Dec. 5, Chuck and Irene Thornton celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Congratulations, Chuck and Irene, and hope you celebrate many more together. GET-WELL Wishes go to Millie Kunz who is a patient at the Michael Reese hospital in Chicago. Get-well wishes go to Mrs. Rathke who is a patient atthe McHenry hospital. Here's hoping you both are now home and are just fine. ESSAY CONTEST Sen. Everett M. Dirksen today encouraged Illinois students to enter the Sesquicentennial essay contest sponsored by Children's Press, Inc. The contest, offering more than $2,000 in prize money, is being conducted in commemoration of the state's 150th anniversary and in conjunction with the publication of a new state history book, "Illinois -- Land of Lincoln". Van Buren St., Chicago, 111. 60607. News About Our Servicemen Airman John H. Eberle Jr., USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Eberle of 7405 S. Drive, Wonder Lake, and husband of the former Miss Georgia K. Leeds of 320 N. Beech street, San Diego, participated in "Blue Lqtus", the largest U.S. First Fleet exercise in three years, while serving with Fleet Composite Squadron-Three aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. The exercise was held off the coast of Southern California from Nov. 28 to Dec. 9. It involved 24,000 men in fortyfive ships, and six air units. The strike force phase of the exercise involved maneuvers to train participating ships in the type of Naval warfare for which they were designed. The amphibious phase of the exercise involved an actual amphibious assault at Camp Pendleton, Calif., by an embarked Marine Expeditionary Brigade. Exercise highlights included surface-to-air missile firings at drone targets, live rocket and bombing attacks on the San Clemente and Chocolate Mountain impact ranges, and Naval air strikes to sink target,ships. Army Private Mitchell A. Weinmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Weinmann, Spring Grove, was assignedas a supply clerk in the 620th Supply company near Karlsruhe, Germany, Nov. 22. Seaman Recruit Daniel W. Benkert, USN, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Benkert of 305 W. Pleasantview drive, McHenry, has been graduated from nine weeks of Navy basic training at the Naval Training center, Great Lakes. In the first weeks of his naval service he studied military subjects and lived and worked under conditions similar to those he will encounter on his first ship or at his first shore station. In making the transition from civilian life to naval service, he received instruction under veteran Navy petty officers. He studied seamanship, as well as survival techniques, military drill and other subjects.
