EDCEBROOK TO PRESENT HOLIDAY PROGRAM DEC. 21 A sixth grade in Edge brook, taught by Mrs. Kinnerkis study-* ing Midieval history. In her class, students have constructed castles. One castle is constructed from sugar cubes which have been glued together. Another interesting castle is constructed of cardboard. The most colorful and tasty one to look at is made of sandwich cookies and sugar wafers. The wafers and other cookies were mounted on cardboard, with frosting. Frosting was also used in construction! of the mat and battlefield around the castle. A licorice chainwas used to make a tree trunk apd a lollypop formed the top. Also in her\jroom Are some interesting decorations for the holiday season. She has a "nut tree" which is sprayed gold. It has nut shells glued to a cone. The back bulletin board is complimented by yarn trees. These are in the outline of a Christmas tree with colored yarn to form them. Decorations are made in forms of trees, candy canes, bells and wreaths. Real popcorn chains also add to the trim of the trees. How would you explain plants and their growth to first graders? Mrs. Martin's class has a very vivid example in their first grade classroom. In their science project they are currently studying plants and other living tilings. They took seeds for beans, melons, pumpkins and radishes. These were put behind glass and mounted on cotton. The only nourishment they received was plenty of water and sunlight. The seeds were put behind glass so the children could see their roots and other parts develop. All of the seeds sprouted and the plants have done amazingly well. The corn and beans have grown the best. The corn to six inches and the bean stems 19 to about eighteen inches. Besides seeing the plants grow day fay day they have learned to identify the stems roots and leaves of these plants. The chances are good that Bobby will get the right answer . . . that is, if Bobby has been given sufficient knowledge to put this problem within the limits of his capability! And don't believe that any of these new electronic brains are any smarter than Bobby. Before one of them undertakes its task it must be fed every fact essential to arriving at an accurate solution. Many folks worry about the youth of our nation. Too many boys and girls are coming up with tragically wrong answers to some of life's crucial questions. But there is nothing inherently wrong with our youth. We simply must provide them, early enough and continuously, with the moral and spiritual understanding which life's problems demand." The right program of religious training today will make possible right answers tomorrow. THE CHURCH FOR ALL ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There arc four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily. RICHMOND BAPTIST CHAPEL American Legion Bldg.
