SANTA COMES SUNDAY, DEC. 17 The local teen club will host visit from Santa Claus this Dec. 17, at 5 p.m. in thte beachhouse. Cost of the yearly event is being underwritten by the Cullom-Knoll association. The jolly gent's visit, means a great deal to the wee ones and we know that parents will be most happy to escort the children to the beach. A cordial invitation to all young boys and girls is extended by the members of the teen club. They also plan to decorate the building for the occasion. ALBERT SCHMIDT . SUCCUMBS IN SHERMAN HOSPITAL A resident of the McHenry area for the past 26 years, Albert Schmidt, 73, died in Sherman hospital, Elgin, last Sunday. Funeral serivces were held in Dundee last Monday with burial in east Dundee. Mr. Schmidt was born March 20, 1894 in Gilberts, 111. He and his wife, Martha, who preceded him in death a few years ago, lived in Dundee for 12 years before moving to McHenry county. They resided at 5114 W. East Lane in the village. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frank Miller, Barrington; sons, Vernon of Portage, Wis., and Albert, Jr., of Elgin. Mr. Schmidt also leaves three sisters, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. LOCAL MEN ACTIVE IN WWI BARRACKS There is a large number of World War I veterans from the village who are active in the McHenry unit of WWI barracks and three of them were installed as officers, Thursday, Dec. 7. Vic Howe was installed as judge advocate, Harry Lock as legislative officer and Garfield (Duffy) Benson as chaplain. The ceremonies took place during a steak dinner meeting, beginning at 7 p.m. These men are to be commended for continuing productive and active lives. I NOTES FROM THE VILLAGE BOARD All trustees and village president were on hand for the regular meeting, Wednesday, Dec. 6. Frank Low was on hand to explain new laws about insurance for municipalities, but no action was taken. Two permits were issued by the building and zoning committee and the police activity report for November was read. Harry Lock, road commissioner, reported a violation of Ord. NO ANSWER TO STRANGE SYMPTOMS Roger Thacker was admitted tcTMcHenry hospital early last week with symptoms which had not been diagnosed as of Sunday. He is the son of Barbara and Chuck Thacker, Lake Shore Drive. The young man complained of listlessness and just not feeling well. After his admittance to the hospital, he has been undergoing a series of tests, but no answer to the mystery at this time. Please remember him with cheery messages. TWINS REUNITED FOR NATAL DAY For the first time in many years, twins Gene Freund of W. West lane and his sister, Mrs. Jeanette Wallace of Dayton, Ohio, celebrated their mutual birthday, last Tuesday. The special treat was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Freund, McHenry. Also joining the jolly group were Gerry and Lenny Jensen and their children. Gerry is the twins' older sister. I Mrs. Wallace arrived in the city last weekend and planned! to stay until today (Friday). SANTA'S HELPER With the population explosion1 in effect, Santa Claus needs all the helping hands he can get, and genial gent Otto Pyritz was among the first to accept the position. He appeared at the delightful McHenry high school choral program last Sunday and brightened the evening for the small fry in the audience. He entertained by dispensing candy with* a free hand and also sang several Christmas carols in German. REUNION IN MUNDELEIN Carol and Tom Bateman were very happy to receive word that his sister, Susie, who married Leonard Griesz, U.S. Army two years ago is home for a visit. The couple were stationed in South Carolina until the serviceman returned to Vietnam for the third time. Susie, and her four month old son, Allan, are staying with Tom's folks - Hope and George Bateman, for an undetermined period. Tom also reports that his brother, Jim, who has been a frequent visitor in the village and is a sergeant in the Marine Corps, is now stationed in Columbia, Central America. He re-enlisted after arriving home from Vietnam with two purple hearts. BOWLING .. Chuck Ingersol is accepting praise for recording high series for men with a 520, last Friday. Honorable mention to Ted Hocin for his 501 series and 189 game. Frank Kurth and Vic Zalinskas each rolled a 193 and 202 game, respectively. Bev Zalinskas captured both slots for women with a 194 and 491 series. Elizabeth Fisher gets honorable mention with a 132 game.
