8, SEC .A •0') PLAINDEALER- DEC. 20, 1967 t MCHENRY SHORES BERMCE WILSON 385-4380 KATHY BARROWS, TERRY DORAN WED IN CH&RCH RITE Kathryn Joe lie Barrows, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Barrows of Hilltop Blvd, was married on Saturday, Dec. 9 to Mr. Terrance James Doran of McHenry in the Community Methodist church. After the sceremony a reception for 130 guests was held at the VFW clubhouse. The happy couple plan a trip to Hawaii in early 1968 and will then make their home in Arlington Heights. * AROUND THE SHORES Bonnie Schopp entertained five couples from the Shores . on Saturday night, serving Hawaiian hors cPoeuvres and Mai Tads to the guests. During the evening all enjoyed the movies taken at the Schopps' twenty-fifth weddinganniversay [ party and of their trip to Ha- ; waii. Daisy and John Smith > were in some of the scenes and they look just great. The Charles Ramages stayed in Mt. Prospect for four days last week with their son and his family. Mr. Scarlet Fever has been hanging around the Hattan home and has visited Cindy, the baby and Butchie. Hope he takes off soon as Darlene is getting mighty tired of him. Bernice Musielak who was in McHenry hospital for a few days undergoing tests, is home npw and feeling much better. BRODS WELCOME GRANDSON Philip and Neva Brod were presented with a fene grandson by their son, Ridmrd, and his wife. William Walter came into the world on Nov.? 27 at McHenry hospital and weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. Congratulations to the happy family. BIRTHDAY FOLKS Happy birthday to Mary Ann Winters and Laura Calvert on Dec. 20. Mary Ann will be 10 and Laura 11 and Kimberly Ann Olbinski will have seven Lakemoor - Lilymoor SHIRLEY SCHUERR 385-2645 ASSOCIATION INSTALLS BOARD OF DIRECTORS Hie Lilymoor association held their general meeting and installation of board of directors Tuesday Dec. 12, in the large dining room of Club Lilymoor. Discussed was a St. Patrick's dance to be held in March. Also discussed were street lights for the subdivision. The books will be audited for the year. Installation of the board of directors took place. Installation chairman was Connie Johnson. Connie installed Jim Johnson, Frank Douglas, Elmer Kroncke and Charles Fergurson. Lee Bassi the fifth board of director was absent. Guest speaker was Dr. Bergstrom who spoke on the school bond issues. The next general meeting will fee held February of 1968. Present thirteen members and guest, Sandy Schuerr. All had a very good time and a lot to eat. All enjoyed their grab gifts. SAVINGS BONDS AND NEW FREEDOM SHARES FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 15, 1927) Friends of Ralph Justeii will be glad to hear that he is enjoying his school life at Jasper College, In<J. He is taking an active part in the athletics of the college and played on the football team and is now in the basketball team. He also plays the cornet with the Melody Masters and is in the Christmas play given at the college. Dredges are operating on Boone Creek widening, straight tening and improving between Green street and the river. The new creek will be from six to twelve feet deep, assuring a current sufficient to keep the water clear and fresh and also being navigable for boars, which can then come as far as the bridge. The property on both sides of the creek will be subdivided, streets will be laid out and everything will be ready for sale of lots next summer. "In the Service of the Queen" is the title of a feature picture which will have a special showing at the Empire theater. The film was produced by the Midwest Catholic theater movement and William Roeder, Lucille Wolfe and the Joyce Kilmer Players. An item of special interest locally is the fact that many of the scenes were filmed at Pistakee Bay and Jphnsburg and some well known young people of McHenry are acting as extras in the production. TWENTY-FIVE. YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 17, 1942) , A surprise open house was held Saturday afterfioon, Dec. 12, at the Paul Gerasch home for Mrs. Gerasch*s mother, Mrs. M.J. Freund, the occasion being the latter's seventyfifth birthday. Joanne Rulien has gone over the top and enrolled McHenry School's 100% in the junior Red Cross drive and has collected enough cash donations for the youngsters to give our McHenry quota, each sick serviceman, a brand new dollar bill. In the short period of tiime since her appointment as head of this junior Red Cross, she has.enrolled a junior surgical dressing class. Mrs. Dorothy Gibbs is chairman of the rural school junior Red Cross. Braving cold and stormy weather twenty-one girls from McHenry took the bus for Waukegan and the U.S.O. last week. As a reward for doing their good deed the party was voted the most successful so far'arid the boys gave a rousing cheer for t t^MM<cH enry girls. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 5, 1957) The camping record this year of the Blackhawk area council, Boy Scouts of America, helped the organization roll up a new record in camping in 1957. A higher percentage of Scouts and Explorers were in camp for ten or more days than ever before, More than 600,000 Boy Scouts and Explorers enjoyed camping experience this year. The Blackhawk area council maintains Camp Lowden at Oregon. This past summer 1,054 Scouts and Explorers attended. This Lecture luncheon club told its annual men's night, Dfeq. 4; at the McHenry Country club>Guest speaker scheduled to entertain members and guests wa? William E. Skadden who returned by popular demand of club members. Abel John Vasey, 79, a lifelong resident of Volo area, died in his home east of that community Nov. 30. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vycital, Mark and Gary, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beckenbaugh, Anita Jean and Bobby and Louis Althoff ate Thanksgiving dinner in the C.W. Beckenbaugh home in Clinton, Iowa. Their son, Skip, who is in the Marines arrived home Monday, Dec. 18 and will be home for the holiday, he leaves Tuesday, Dec. i^for l3eau{prt, S.C. Although we're all very happy to have our \amily altogether yours truly is going to take off when sons Bill and Skip get into a discussion about the Army and the Marines.
