SCOUTS SEEK NEW MEMBER GOAL BY '@8 Moving into the last month of their annual fall roundup, officials of the Blackhawk Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, predict that the six county area will reach a new memberjship high by the end of the year. Council President Edward Stonefield said, "The fine work of our volunteer leaders is go- J.ng to pay off during our fall rouutjup, anu we expect to acta 3,000 new Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorers for a total of over 12,000 boy members. This will be a new membership record for the council." 7 Stonefield explained, "It isn't the number that's so important but the fact that our Scout council is making scouting available to even more boys through community institutions that use scouting as part of their program." Many of the new Scouts will be joining Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout troops, and Explorer posts which ar^ now being organized by members of the council's organization and extension committee, Stonefield said. Boys who want to be Scouts DEC. 22, 1967- PLAINDEALER - SEC. PG. 3 will be able to join one of these Scout Units, Stonefield said, or can get information about other Scout units by calling the Scout Service center, 1800 Seventh avenue PRockford, 964-5659. All of the Scout units in the BlackhaWn Area council will hold investiture ceremonies in December, Stonefield said. Mrs. Robert Conway visited Rockford relatives and friends a few days last week. A holiday dinner and gathering of the Thompson family was held at an eating place near Crystal Lake Sunday. Those in attendance were Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Adams, son, Jack, and wife, Mrs. Richard Clark, daughter Susan, Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson, daughter, Mary Beth sons, Tommy and James, the latter's wife, Mrs. Kathryn Worts and Paul Kilday of McHenry; Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson of Kansasville, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Messman and Charles Thompson of Woodstock. Mrs. LeRoy Smith motored to Naperville, Tuesday to pick up her son, Rich,.a junior at North Central college to bring him home for Christmas after which he will return to school to accompany his basketball team to MCHS STUDENTS INVITED TO 1 ITH CAREER SEMINAR Students from McHenry schools have been invited to attend the eleventh annual Chemistry Career seminar to be sponsored by the Chemical Industries council, Midwest. The seminar will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Pick-Congress hotel, Chicago. A feature of the seminar is person-to-person counseling by men from chemical and pharmaceutical companies located ip the Chicago area. The men will outline the requirements for a career in chemistry. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wohlert, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Kloeckner and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wohlert helped their mother, Mrs. Gertrude Kloeckner, celebrate her seventy-ninth birthday on Dec. 19. presentatives from Chicago area colleges and universities will counsel studeijts on educational requirements. The students will receive an orientation to careers in the chemical industry through a special film and through panel sessions, which will cover the basic career areas in the industry - Research, Production, Marketing and Miscellaneous job categories. A special area has been set aside for displays and demonstrations.
