Teams Clash In • Games On Wednesday There will be at least one big basketball game locally during the Holiday seasoa. This will be a clash in St. Mary's gym on Wednesday night between two strong grade school teams, St. Mary's and St. Patrick's. Each team has lost only one game. St. Patrick's to St. James of Arlington Heights, and St. Mary's in an early season contest to St. Patrick's. The Irish are in secondplace in their conference, while the Royals are leading theirs with an undefeated record. Mc Junior High is second in this league, two games behind. St. John's of Johnsburg is at the top in their standings with an unblemished record, and so is the Johnsburg Public School in still another association. Thus, competition in this area is of a high, caliber this year. At St. Mary's Wednesday, Dec. 27, the first game will begin at 6:30 between the Sixth Grade quintets. At 7; 30 the Junior varsities will meet; and in the 8:30 feature the Varsities will collide. USE THE CLASSIFIEDS May the message of His birth bring comfort and joy to all. ADAMS BROS. Of interest of local fans was And so we com€ right up to the top of the year -- Christmastime. The rush is on. Shopping, mailing cards, and a thousand little jobs that need attention. We love the season and the spirit that goes with it, but as for shopping -- we aren't worth a whoop or a holler. SO I HEAR • By Earl Walsh On one beautiful card we read this verse over and over: Somehow, not only for Christmas But all the long year through, The joy that you give to others Is the joy that comes back toyou. John Greenleaf Whittier. to receive cards and open them carefully that we may' enjoy them thoroughly. Some have notes attached like this one from former McHenryite Fred Mueller of Warner Robins, Georgia: Hi Earl - Last year I wrote and said "Hope for a White Sox and Braveis series." Your team almost made it. The Braves scared 'em for a while. So we can only hope for a pennant in '68 tor both teams and then those Cub fan friends of yours might get off your back. Anyway -- Hope you have a good year in many ways in '68.1 enjoy your column and the Plaindealer news coverage each week. Fred Mueller Then there are cards from our own family that we cherish, but will omit here. We find it hard to part with some cards throughout the year and have a stack saved. the hard fought semi-final battle between St. Mary's and St. John's of Johnsburg, Playing some of their best ball the Royals won a decisive victory over a cold St. John's 38-22. But the score doesn't really indicate the ferocity of the contest aind the potential ability of the losers, who just never quite got into high gear. In the other semi-'final the Wauconda cagers trampled St. Anne's in the second half to win .46-19. First round scores were: St. John's beat Maplewood of Cary, 38-26. St. Mary's conquered St. Margaret's of Algonquin, 42- 15. St. Anne'S of Barrington nicked Sts. Peter & Paul of Cary, 35-33. Transfiguration bombed St. Bede's of Fox Lake, 46-25. Our foreman, John, is on the flu list and it would be a nice gift to us all from Santa if he would get him back to us soon. There are many things we could wish for many people, but if you are blessed with good health please do not ask too much more. If Santa could bring our White Sox another hitter or two it would be just dandy. And if he could drop off a 6'7" center to Coach Ludwig for the Warriors, we would say again, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus." And Santa, you get around We would ask God to bless you and us with peace of mind. If all of us can do something to make others happy at Christmas, the rewards will be great. And if you are the prayin' kind, please slip in a short one for "S.I.H." who hopes to be around next year and years after to wish you all a Merry. Christmas. Muscles Strain At Cary A White Sox-Braves series would be OK, Fred, but our dream is for a White Sox-Cub clash to silence those friends you mention. But, in spite of the season, it wouldn't be right for us to say more. They are such sweet, lovable characters. Anyhow, they are characters. Warrior Wrestlers Bow To lit Hager Friday By Beit Hagemann This past the wrestling Warriors dropped their second match of the season to another powerhouse team from North Chicago. Although the 27-15 margin of victory seems comfortable enough, it does not indicate the terrific scrap put up hy the never say die Warrior wrestlers. Once again it was the middle weight classes which destroyed Warrior chances for victory, as McHenry lost five straight matches in a row from 112 to 138. The evening started off on a promising note as Jim Sobacki, wrestling in his first varsity match at 95, defeated his opponent 5-3 on the basis of a takedown and a near fall. Guy Hansen followed this with a narrow 2-1 squeaker over his opponent, getting his margin of victory on a reverse in the final round. Then disaster struck icago 27-15 with a resounding clash. Justen and Schlieben lost one sided decisions, and Voight, Fuchs, and Baur were all pinned before Ken Wahl got the orange and black back on the track with a 7-2 victory at 145. The Warriors still had a chance to pull out a victory when Tony Wagner won his match by a 10-0 margin, but Mike Antonicelli dropped a 6-0 decision to an extremely tough opponent. Jim Laursengot the last Warrior victory at 180 with a close 7-5 decision, his opponent gai.ii.ig two points on penalties.' Rich Mueller closed out the evening with a 5-2 defeat as his opponent racked up all his points in the last period on a reverse, penalty and near fall. The job the Warriors now face is to bounce back and return to their winning ways, as their season record now stands at 5-2.
