\ PG. 4, - PIAINDEALER - DECEMBER 27, 1967 Wrestling Warriors Back On Beam To Defeat Cary-Grove >0' Wrestlers Watcli Next Move At Cary-Grov^ By Bert Hagemaai The wrestlers got back on the winning track last Tuesday night as they defeated a surprisingly tough Cary-Grove team, 22-14. In their last tuneup before the holiday tournament, the„ Warrior wrestling power once again evidenced itself with convincing wins at many different levels. Jim Sobaeki started everything off with a 6-2 win over a tough opponent, and Guy Hansen followed with a 5-0 loss. Dennis Justen got the Warriors back in the win cdumn with a convincing 7-0 victory, and in a free scoring match at 120, Mike Schlieben dropped a 10-6 decision. Continuing the topsyturvy scoring, Don Voight edged McHenry ahead with a shutout 7-0 win, and Fuchs continued the win lose trend by dropping a 4-0 decision. The Warriors dropped behind in the adoring when Tom Baur was beaten at 138, but thee the Warriors weight men came on strong with a 5-0 win by Km Wahl, a tie at 154 by Tony Wagner, and a win by Mike Antpnicelli. BIG FIREWORKS However, the big^I^reworks of the evening remained for the last match, as both squads forfeited 180, and coach Bill Hutchinson threw his ace 180 pounder, Jim Laursen, into the fray against Doug Kredel, the undefeated Cary Grove heavyweight. In one of the most outstanding matches of the year, these two One athletes gave an outstanding performance, with Laiirsen coming out victorious against his heavier opponent, by an 8-2 margin. The match saw many penalty points and a disqualification after the match as the irate Kredel was disqualified by the referee. This was a strange match in that there were no pins, and only the Warrior power in the heavier weights averted defeat. The Warriors bounced back well from two consecutive losses, and . now go into the new year with a 6-2 record. , Grappler Standing On His Head (PLAINDEALER PHOTO) Dennis Justen,,\\MMCLHH S 112 pound wrestler, has his man up- side down at Cary-•GGrroqvve^ and won his match 6-0. ENTRIES CLOSE TUESDAY NOON, January 9, after which time entries cannot be accepted, cancelled, altered or substituted. It is a grand and glorious season, so filled with goodwill. Let's hope that some of that spirit will stay with us throughout the New Year. One of our great Old Timers, Jake Buss, was called to his eternal reward last week after living a long and useful life. To meet Jake and talk to him made one feel better. He loved McHenry and never tired of reminiscing about the early days. Hope they have'a McHenry Old Timers' club iq> theife. Jake will be in his glory. Hie Irish have long been noted far having good times at wakes. We are guilty ..Of course, "there are some too sad for goings Dip. But, a good visit was in order at the Jake Buss wake. We met the John Stoffel family, old neighbors, and could have . visited- much longer. Margaret Miller Stoffel (Mrs. George) was there and brought back pleasant memories of her mother. She was a true friend and good neighbor. Nothing was too much for her to do for a friend. Had a chuckle thinking of one time Mrs. Miller's little kitchen stove got overheated so she picked it up and carried it out in the back yard. I HEAR By Earl Walsh, sent out their first team against the Rams. The Rams were riding high after clobbering the Baltimore Colts. Green Bay was supposed to have a bunch of cripples. So the Packers clobbered the Rams and the experts were wrong again. They say the Packers have pride. That may be. But, it looks to us like they have some bald headed old pros who can smell money at the end of the rainbow. 20 jy 4>^H % 2^1 A quick- glance at bowling scores and this fancy score hit our eyes: Betty CfBrien 266- 605. That* s real nifty. We are one of the few men who wear a scarf these days. John Looze says to keep wear - ing it -- they may come back in style. We believe him. Now that shiny suits are in style, we can drag out our old blue suit that wasnt shiny when we bought it. The Ndrthern Illinois "" Conservation Club's 7th annual Ice Fishing Derby, scheduled for January 7th, on Loon Lake, is gaining momentum like an avalanche going down a steep snowcovered mountainside, as Derby Day draws nearer. Prizes are pouring into derby headquarters from all points of the compass, and with those already allocated for the Ice Queen, have almost reached the $3 thousand mark, making this years edition the most valuable for the participants. The NICC will revive a novel prize give-away, which was inaugurated several years ago free ice fishing lures for fish ermen who fail to catch a fish. Sidewinders and Child- Ke High School physically events being staged to false the necessary money to take care of the established program for the physically handicapped in our area- as well as to add to the future plans of the organization. It is hoped that within five years, United Cerebral Palsy will be able to btkild a Diagnostic and Evaluation Center in Northern Illinois - where a small child can be taken by its parents for evaluation and testing to determine the extent of brain damage involved. Previously these children had to be taken to Wisconsin or into Chicago - after a long wait for appointments. Since the advent of Special Education in McHenry county - there are now several Lake County physically handicapped youngsters in both the West School Class and the High School Class - both located in (PLAINDEALER PHOTO) handicapped classes. All will be seen at the big benefit game-at- Crystal Lake High School Jan. 27. Crystal Lake. UCP of McHenry County furnishes these children with the necessary special equipment to help them with their education. United Cerebral Palsy Association's door-to-door drive is scheduled to take place in this county on Jan. 14 - and many volunteers are needed. The door-to-door drive raised more than one half of the funds needed and is considered one of the most important events the organization conducts. Since therte will be no dinner-dance this year, it is hoped that both volunteers and donors will heed our motto - HAPPINESS IS HELPING! To become one of the many volunteers, call 385-4511 for an assignment in your area.
