Again this year, McHenry1 County 4-H members will be showing 4-H animals given theni by a group of Chicago and local businessmen who want to boost the youngsters in their efforts. They cooperated with David Smith, assistant farm adviser, and the county agricultural extension ser vice program to determine recipients of three purebred Angus heifers. Winners of purebred Hampshire yearling e.wes also will be selected. McHenry County 4-H members were invited to write and tell^why they would like to receive one of the animals. The winners were chosen on the basis of their letters. The heifer winners: Kevin Keane, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Keane, 13; Greg Luedtke,^, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Luedtke, both boys from Woodstock; and Dave Howell, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs0 George Chudzik, Union. The men who bought the eight-monthold heifers comprise a group called Gallant Ventures. Through the years they have contributed to such charitable causes as the cancer fund drive Scouts, heart fund drive, and Boys' clubs. But the idea tohelp 4-Hers and watch them develop^ a product was given the group by Dick Walrath, Woodstock sheep farmer who works in the loop but enjoys farm life every day of the year. The men who help with the projects do, too. Last year they bought animals for county 4-H members to show, and the projects were cared for so impressively the donors wanted t » expand their efforts. The 4-H members will show their projects at the 1968 McHenry County Fair, scheduled for the first weekend in. August.
