Lee Varese, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Varese, graduated from McHenry high school last June. Since then she has been enrolled as a professional student inX the theatre arts classes of Southern M&hodist university. In addition'she^has received valuable experience doing commercial modeling for Joan Frank Productions. Other pursuits have included dancing for the Dick Leonard agency, with appearances at Shepherd Fields Air Force base before several thousands. The latter was especially noteworthy since she is the third in her family to have performed there. Her mother, Ann Varese, popular musical comedy star, took part in the USO unit shows there during World War II, and her grandmother, Leora Craig, opera and concert star, was featured there with the Texanaires, who also had a radio show. Returning to Texas following the holiday vacation, Miss Varese looks forward to a number of engagements, including the exclusive Chez Anthony club, where she has been featured as a dancer. She also is part of a song and dance duo with COUNTY FATALITIES Two county men lost their lives in auto accidents last weekend, becoming the first traffic fatalities of the year. Richard Thompson, 27, of Marengo was killed ^arlySaturday evening when his car went out of control and skidded under the front wheels of a semi-trailer on Rt. 23. Jesus H. Cordova, 23, of Rt. 1, Uhion, was dead on arrival at Sherman hospital, Elgin, early Sunday morning after being injured in a onecar crash at Union. He was a passenger in a car driven by Juan Alaniz of Texas, which struck a tree and a parked auto. Otto Kerner has announced that the Amateur Radio program of the Illinois Sesquicentennial commenced on Lee De Forest Day, Sunday, Dec. 31. Ham radic^ operators use QSL cards to confirm radio contacts with other ham operators. By contacting a specified number of out-of-state radio operators, the Illinois ham qualifies for a special certificate. "We're aiming for at least 150,000 personal radio messages from Illinois, to ham operators throughout the world," said L.A. Wollan Jr., assistant director of the Illinois Sesquicentennial commission.
