Take this short "fact or fallacy' ' test and find out. 1. SouthernA cli>m ate is beneficial in promoting a longer life expectancy for senior citizens. FACT. Studies show that - from age 50 on - the person in the South has a longer life expectancy than his northern counterpart. On the other handup to age 50 - the person who lives in the North fights disease and other natural killers better than his neighbors in the South. 2. A two-week vacation in the South will cure a winter cold. FALLACY. If you bask in sunny Florida for a fortnight your winter cola or other respiratory troubles may vanish - but only for the time being. When you return to the North, your cold most likely will recurr in full force. 3. Climate in the Southwest, such as Arizona, offers relief to hay fever victims. FALLACY. The dry desert air in the Southwest decreases the ability of mucous membranes in the nose to fight off allergens. What's more, there are various plants in the Southwest that can cause the same allergic reactions as northern hayfever plants. Consequently, a pollen count of 40 in the Southwest could bring as much misery to a hayfever victim as a pollen count of 1,000 inthemidwest.
