Grimm, who thrilled many of us with his classy play around first base in a former era, gave us a bushel of laughs with his stories about players and the game. Charlie said it is?too bad the fans cannot hear some of the conversations on the field. He told us a few that were gems. iv- While there is no doubt that Grimm loves the Cubs, he still has the Milwaukee imprint written all over him. If he isn't a brat worst and brew man, yours truly doesn't like corned beef and cabbage. SO I HEAR By Earl Walsh holding it high. We may disown him. Grimm liked the sign so much that he talked the boys out of it and took it home with him. Couldn't begin to answer all the friendly fellows we met. Leo Kortemeier was one of the first to shake a paw. Judge Charlie Parker, an old friend, had some good laughs during the program. Bill Carroll, Jr., was just down the line at our table. The evening was made brighter when we had a chance to chat with Toney Roskie. He has to rate with the best men we have ever known. What he has done for athletics and athletes, could best be known by a check on the men of today who were his boys yesterday. re§tlimg Warrwrs To Down Wildcats We accompanied Don Doherty and Fred Meyer to the Elks party and all agreed that it was a great event. You should have seen Gene Schaefer, a Sox fan, with the Bimbo Cubs delegation, carrying that Cub sign around and Charlie Grimm's quick wit showed up in the question and answer period of the program. One example was when somebody asked him if he had his choice between Grover Cleveland Alexander and Sandy Koufax -- which would he take? Quick as a wink Grimm answered, "Koufax. He bats left handed." SHOP IN MCHENRY By Bert Hagemann The wrestling Warriors continued their roller coaster winning pace" this past weekend with a lopsided 28-15 win over the Cats of Libertyville. The hustling orange and black matmen garnered victories in eight weight classes and tied in (Hie other as they simply outclassed a game, but undermanned Wildcat group. The Warriors got off on the right foot as Sobacki, Hansen, Justeh and Schlieben all won decision victories. Sobacki and Justen shut their op* ponents out while Hansen and Schlieben edged by in two close thrillers, 4-3 and 3-2. Don Voight tied his rugged opponent 0-0 at 127 and then Fuchs had the misfortune to drop the first match of the evening by the narrow margin of 3-2. Libertyville followed this up with a pift at 138, but Ken Wahl got the Warriors back into the win column when he pinned his opponent at 1:58. Wagner, Antonicelli, and Laursen all followed up with shutout victories before McHenry had to forfeit the heavyweight match. So all in all, it was a profitable evening for Hutch's hustlers, as the Warriors once again proved their superiority to yet another North Suburban foe. McHenry has only a few dual matches left before they ent^r conference championship competition in a few weeks, so be Sure to give them a look see. Watch the Plaindealer sports calendar for dates. On Friday night they will journey to near-by Woodstock to take on a tough Blue Streak squad. The big Blue are headed by hulking Steve Wilson, one of the fine boys in the conference. Wilson is ably assisted under the glass by burly Doug Crain, and the Woodstock back court is improving weekly. Once again McHenry will have to face big, rough opponents under the bank boards, but a ray of hope is on the horizon. Coach Ken Ludwig refuses to believe that McHenry will go any longer without a win, and he feels that if the roundballers can keep their thins up and keep scrapping, they will get over the hump. The victory hump is being magnified weekly by the run of losses that the Warriors have been experiencing , but. improved play recently can perhaps jell into an orgy or basket making and errorless basketball. On Saturday night the always tough Mundelein squad will invade Warrior land. As usual, they will be well coached, confident, and tough.
