BERNICE WILSON LYNNE MUNROE RETUHZM'B FROM VISIT IN JAPAN Lynne Munroe is home again after three wonderful months in Japan and the island of Okinawa. The night of Oct. 18 was spent in Tokyo in a Japanese style hotel with beds on the floor, after which it was desided the western way was best. All day Thursday was spent shopping on the Ginza, which is Tokyo's loop, and a lot of money changed hands. That evening there was a night club tour which included a real sukiyaki dinner, then on to a kabuki theater where all the roles are played by men, from there to a geisha house where they witnessed a mock wedding. The next day they toured the city of Nikko which is 100 miles north of Tokyo, where the day was spent going through the many shrines and temples. The following day they visited Kyoto, the former capital of Japan, located about 200 miles south of Tokyo where luckily the annual Jidai Festival, Festival of the ages was going on so.another day went by as they watched the parade which represents different periods in Japanese history and everyone is dressed in authentic costumes. The remainder of the time was spent on the island of Okinawa visiting with her sister and getting acquainted with her new niece. FOUR WEEKS TO DEADLINE FOR LICENSES Less than four weeks now remain for Illinois motorists to have their 1968 license plates displayed on their vehicles, Secretary of State Paul Powell warned. The deadline for displaying the current year's^plates is midnight Thursday, Feb. 15, and merely having applied for the plates or carrying them inside the car will not constitute compliance with this ruling, he said. Mr. Powell advised owners planning to apply by mail to have their applications in his office by Feb. 1, and preferably by Jan. 25, in order to be assured of receiving the plates in time for the deadline. Processing of applications apd the fact the plates are handled by the post office as third class mail may mean that two, and possibly three, weeks may elapse between receipt of the applications and arrival of the plates at their destination, he said. . Secretary Powell added that car owners who apply immediately can expect quicker delivery of their plates because their applications can be processed before the last minute rush of aDDlications arrive.
