The comprehensive 640-hour curriculum included such subjects as, fundamentals of direct and alternating current electricity; vacuum tube and transistor theory and circuit application; radio receiver theory, alignment, tracking and troubleshooting; transmitter theory and troubleshooting; radar electronic fundamentals, circuit and applications; and introduction to computer fundamentals. Prior to attending this course he graduated from the two-week indoctrination course in naval aviation. Army Private First Class Edward R. Schlief, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. EdwardG.Schlief Sr., Route 1, Spring Grove, was assigned as a medic in Headquarter and Company A of the 1st Infantry Division's 1st Medical Battalion near Di An, Vietnam, Feb. 25. To Harold Breede and family on the sudden death of his brother, Carl, who died on Sunday, March 10 and was buried on Tuesday, March 12. Also to Helen Grant and her family and Norm Jeschke and his family on the loss of their mother, Mrs. Ella L Jeschke, who died on Wednesday, March 6. Services were held Saturday March 9, with interment in McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery. And to Mr. and Mrs. Gobel Canady and Tom Canady and their families on the loss of their son and brother, Max Canady in a tragic accident on Terra Cotta hill cm Route 31 on Tuesday, March 5. Max lived in Huemann's subdivision with 'his wife, Bertha and three children Eugene, 7, Kenneth 5 and Barbara, 18 months. WOMEN'S CLUB DINNER , Wednesday, May 15 is the date of the annual Women' s club dinner, BUT -- reservations must be in by April 6. Last Wednesday's meeting was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed as the gals had the opportunity to re-do themselves and several went home wondering if 'blondes do really have more fun??? Hostesses who served amid shamrocks in honor of St. Patrick's Day were Marge Connell and Gail Postal. WASHINGTON TRIP My daughters, April and Wendy, and I experienced a most thrilling experience as we made our first trip to Washington, D.C. The high point in our trip was lunch in the House of Representatives restaurant in our capitol building as the guests of a personal friend of long standing, Congressman Harold Collier, who,,, represents the 10th district in Illinois. He also took us on a personally conducted tour of the capitol. April and I agreed that it was one of the most memorable experiences of our lives. Our trip also included a VIP tour of the White House as well as a view of the Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson and Iwo Jima Memorials, the National Archives and the Smithsonian Institute and, of course, the House of Labor. YOUNGSTERS TO ' LEARN ABOUT INDIAN PLANTS Starting in April, the Field Museum of Natural History will take youngsters on a self guided tour of the museum's botany areas to learn the secrets of plants that Indians used. To participate, children pick up free information guide sheets upon entering the museum, and follow the charted course, answering questions asked in the quide as they go. This Spring Journey will continue through May. During April, the Museum will be open from 9 a.m.* to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is free on Thursdays and weekends. Other days, adults pay a very small fee. JOHN HINZ TO COME HOME I dropped in to McHenry hospital last Thursday to visit with neighbor John Hinz and found him to be in good spirits and getting around well. He had just been informed that he was being released to go home (Hi Sunday, March 17 after quite a spell in the hospital. So he was happy to get that bit of news. Best wishes for continued progress to John. SYMPATHY TO CORCORAN FAMILY Friends and neighbors of Bill Corcoran were sorry to hear that he had passed away on March 14 after being in ill health for about a year. He had gone back to the hospital after a short stay at home and pneumonia developed. Cuicondolences to Ingaborg and to his son and grandson. Burial was Monday at St. Patrick's cemetery in town. Still, Woodstock^ general county chairman of the savings bonds committee. Purchases in the state of Illinois were $34,995,880. according to Arnold J. Rauen of McHenry, state director of the Treasury department's savings bonds division.
