Industrial Dr. MeMBUlY 3-27/3-29-68 The McHenry County Democratic Central committee voted unanimously last week to endorse the candidacy of William J. Bolger for delegate to the Democratic national nominating convention in the June 11 primary. Earlier this month, Bolger received the endorsement of John Grean, Democratic State Central committeeman for the 12th Congressional district. This district includes all of Lake and McHenry counties and Hanover and Barrington townships of Cook county. Bolger is running for delegate favoring th3 renD.nination of President Johnson. Asked how he felt about the candidacies of Senators McCarthy and Kennedy, x Bolger stated, " D e m o c r a y ' s g r e a t e s t strength is in the acceptance of debate and the room which it allows for discussion of issues. These discussions will make us grow stronger. Democracy will endure as it has endured and W3 will go on to the greater America that is to be." Two varieties of "extinct" animals have been re-created by selective breeding during recent decades. First, the urus (uroch) discussed by Caesar as inhabiting Europe, became extinct in 1627. Cave drawings and Caesar's descriptions gave good ideas of what they were like. During the 1920's, as an experiment, this new species was especially developed from domesticated cattle, and they exactly fit the early description. The second experiment bred back the wild horses, ex_- tinct for a million years or so, from their descendants, the domesticated horse. Their skeletons match the fossils identically. Selective Service Set below are questions frequently asked of the Selective Service System along with appropriate answers. Your cooperation in printing or announcing these will be in the public interest. Q. What requirements mast I meet to qualify for a 11-S classification as an undergraduate college student? A. You must file a written request with your local board for deferment as an undergraduate college student. Additionally. you should have your school send a student certificate to your local board providing evidence that you are satisfactorily pursuing a fulltime course of instruction at that institution. Q. How does the Selective Service system define the phrase "satisfactorily pursuing a full-time course of instruction" when the deferment of undergraduate college students is being considered? A. To be considered as "satisfactorily pursuing a full -time course of instruction" an undergraduate student who is taking a four-year course should earn 25 percent of the credits required for his baccalaureate degree at the end of his first academic year, 50 percent at the end of his second academic year, and 75 percent at the end of his third academic year. In the case of a baccalaureate degree for which 5 years of study are prescribed by the institution, a student should earn 20 percent each year of the total credits required for the degree. -Q. What is meant by a "student's academic year"? A. In determining eligibility for classification in Class 1J-S (college student), a student's academic year shall include the 12-month period following the beginning of his course 6f study. Q. What are the limitations, if any, on how long apersoncan be deferred as an undergraduate college student? A. A registrant can be deferred in Class 11-S as an undergraduate college student until he satisfied the requirements for his baccalaureate degree if completed within the normal and specified time, fails to pursue satisfactorily a full-time course of instruction, or becomes 24 years of age, whichever comes first. NOMINATING PETITIONS OF HILL ARE VALID Nominating petitions of John B. "Jack" Hill, Republican candidate for 33rd District State Representative were unanimously held to be valid Friday by the Illinois State Electoral board whose members are Associate Judges Robert Sears, Kendall county; Harold Sewell, DeKalb; John Krause, Kane; Carl Swanson, Boone; and Charles Parker, McHenry. Objections to Hill's petitions had been filed by Barbara B. Damisch, Hampshire. Mrs. Danrsch's major objection was that signatures were notarized by notaries public who failed to file a memorandum of appointment with their respective County Clerks. Objector's counsel R. Heckencamp, Springfield, requested a continuance of the hearing, citing a "shortness of time" on establishment of the hearing date, which, he alleged, made it impossible for witnesses to be subpoenaed to appear Friday. The motion was denied by the Electoral board. Hill's attorney .William Wake, Aurora, asked that objections be dismissed as invalid, citing Illinois Supreme and Appellate court cases, supporting the contention that though notaries, while not listed with their respective County Clerks, were held to be " Notary De Facto"... having been duly certified by the Secretary of State„ The board then ruled that failure of the notaries to file the memorandum did not invalidate signatures contained in the petitions. Since the petitions in question numbered in excess of the 234 signatures required for Hill's nominating petitions, the board unanimously ruled that remaining objections were invalid. So® Mm A PUBLIC SERVICE OF THE ILLINOIS STATE MEDICAL SOCIETY DON'T IGNORE THAT SNORE! Do you snore? If so, take heed; your nocturnal gurgles and snorts can be symptoms of a genuine medical problem. Snoring, for example, can be caused by: 1. POLYPS IN THE ftJOSE, which forces the person to sleep with his mouth open. Treatment of this condition frequently requires surgery. 2. NASAL CONGESTION, due to the common coal, sinus trouble, or hay fever. Frequently, nose drops or antihistamines bring relief and greatly reduce snoring from these causes. 3. ENLARGED ADENOIDS AND TONSILS, the most common cause of snoring in children. Here again, surgical removal is the only way to combat the problem. Many people snore even without apparent medical cause due, to the peculiar way their soft palate and other soft structures of the nose and throat vibrate in response to breathing while asleep. To prevent the embarrassment and family strain that can arise from his problem, the chronic snorer would do well to take the following measures: •LIE ON YOUR SIDE OR STOMACH WHEN SLEEPING -most snoring occurs only when the person lies on his back. •AVOID SMOKING, which can affect tissue tone and contribute to snoring. * AVOID FATIGUE AND OVERWORK, which also can affect tissue tone and precipitate a bout of snoring. *LOSE WEIGHT - excess tissue build-up from obesity tends to lessen air space in the breathing passage and enhance snoring. If these measures do not help see your physician; there probably is a medical cause behind your snoring problem. Once this problem is corrected, you will not only feel better - but save your family from a lot of harrassment and psychologic stress.
