Freund has been 1968 MCHS Golf Team Shows Power As Practice Starts By Jan Harris For the past two weeks the MCHS Golf Team has been practicing in the Landmark gym. The bqys are hitting golf balls into a driving net which was given to Mr. Cuda by the late Julius Goffo. With the return of 4 lettermen, this years team, again, should be very strong. Letter winners from last years team are Frank Cuda, Mark Domato, Tim Martin and Robert Mauch. Bob Mauch and Frank Cuda have earned three major letters, Tim Martin two and Mark Domoto one in golf. With this balance and an outstanding group of sophomores and freshmen the future in golf looks good for Mr. Cuda. Outstanding sophomores are Harry Hans, Jeff Michels, Jim Michels, Kurt Knaack, and Jim Lightner. Outstanding freshmen are Nelson Adams, Randy Smith, Tom Funk, Dan Nosal, Steve Fain, Steve Cuda and John Thomas. A total of 37 boys signed up for the. team. This will be cut to 20 in two weeks and a freshmen - sophomore, and varsity schedule will be played. All home matches will be played at the McHenry Country club starting at 4:15. Thefirst match will be at Antioch on April 11, followed by Libertyville oh April 18. MCHENRY RECREATION TEN PIN QUEENS-MONDAY NIGHTS Doretta Otto 170-180-162- By Bert Hagemann With opening day just a couple of weeks away, now is the time for another stab at predicting the North Suburban baseball race. The football picks came out quite close, and in basketball I managed to pick one correctly, the winner, North Chicago. As I see it, the final standings come the 23rd of May could very well look like this: 1. Barrington 2. Dundee 3. North Chicago 4. Libertyville 5. McHenry 6. Zion-Bettton 7. Crystal Lake , 8. Woodstock. The Broncos are loaded this season where it counts, right up the middle. They have invincible Vince Tdlpo and crafty John English back on the slab with heady Brian Clay behind the plate. Couple this with fair hitting and they should have the depth to make things miserable for the rest of the conference. Dundee has MacKenzie, one of the best lefties in the state as , pitcher, along with Peel behind the plate. Their lack of pitching punch might hurt on double header days, but coach Howard Schneider will get the most out of them to be sure. North Chicago will once again feature a terrific attack, but I feel their pitching will not hold up well enough over the season. How-" ever, they are always a threat and could surprise if Guy Curtright can find a stopper. Libertyville and Zion will be strong hitting teams as usual, but their pitchers were all seniors last year and help will have to be found there. Crystal Lake and Woodstock are probably a year away, as both are rebuilding and both will miss the likes of talented hurlers like Glen Guss and Bob Johnson. This brings us to the Warriors. As I stated earlier, this will be a young team with fine potential, but not yet really tested in the rugged baseball wars of the North Suburban. Although we have yet to play an intrasquad game, we have managed to get outside three times, and here are some names to watch. NO registrations will be taken after Saturday. POM POM GIRLS ATTEND STATE CONVENTION The MCHS pom-pom girls, pictufed 1. to r. . ., attended the Wisconsin State Dance Convention, sponsored by the Dance Masters of Wisconsin, on Sunday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. This year's convention wa6 held at the Adele Artinian Dance Studio, located at 219 W. Wisconsin avenue in Milwaukee. The girls performed the routine, "Georgy Girl" while their choreographer, Mrs. Nancy Gardiner, of McHenry, instructed the group of 75-100 teachers and selected students. The purpose of the convention was to share ideas with each other, and help develope a varied, yet current study program for the students. Cow Girls Play MCHS Faculty Here Sat. Nite The famous Texas Cow Girl Basketball team will come to McHenry to play the faculty men of MCHS Saturday night, March 30th at 8:00 p.m. in the high school gym. The 1967-68 season will have in the line-up, 5 veterans this year. The Texas Cow Girls players are chosen for their ability and also for their moral back ground.' They travel approximately 50,000 to 60,000 miles during the seasonplaying men's teams, men*s rules. They start in October and play until the first of May. Ttiey have an extensive training camp before going on to the road, at which time they are taught the ways of road ball, showmanship, etc. Besides playing an excellent brand of basketball, the Texas Cow Girls are outstanding showmen, are very colorful and are very entertaining crowd pleasers. Hie fans will be delighted and highly entertained when the Texas Cow Girls come to town to play the local men's teams. This is the 18th year for the Texas Cow Girls on the road. They have played over 3,200 engagements coast to coast.
