These are mighty excitin' .times we're a seein' these days. Guess the president's announcment stirred up a lot o^ folks, who thought they was goin' ta have it easylike when they found the time nigh to pickin' a man fo^ the president's seac, for the next four years. Now they may have to do a lot o* tall thinkin' it "ppears to me, if they are really interested in what happens to this country, and the rest o* the world, for that matter. To my thinkin' w3 are in need of a real stateman, honest and dedicated to the effort needed to set this country back on the pedestal where it once stood, a man with a quiet, firm and mature dignity, able to set the example for our younguns; a man who can show the people a better way to happiness, with goals of greater development of ma.iki.nd. Most of all, we older folks discovered long ago, that you can't spend yerself rich, and the sooner our government sets a more practical standard, the better off we're goin' to be. Folks needs a new example of good solid government with serious, practicalminded men behind it, mature men, with years of experience to help them re-construct the foundation on which this great country was built; men interested in America; instead of self-glory or money. With men in our government, honestly dedicated in patriotic effort to re-establish a solid economy, this Amorica can't fail. It's like my kitchen garden when I let it get ahead o* mc. The weeds grow so thick, it's mightly hard to tell what to do, but the right thinkin' man, to sit in the big house, in Washington, could start the ball goin' in the right direction, seems to me. He has to be brave and be willin' to buck the machines and stand the guff. More power to him, whoever he may be. There seems to be a couple o' real earnest men to choose from. I jest hope we kin pick the right 1 ' \ . V/*> ' M ; ff J \ -sSi- Li i:- PHOTO BY DOBI ROBERTA DONNELLY Dr. and Mrs. R.W.
