This was the case recently when Company One oif the McHenry Township Fire Protection District held one of their many drill sessions at a vacated home on west Route 120. The house, owned by Foremost Liquors, was to be razed so that the property could be converted into a parking area. Gary Gough, Captian of Company One, Lt. Bob Hansen and Asst. Chief Glenn Peterson looked over the house and the surrounding property to determine in advance how many men and how much equipmsnt would be needed to safely conduct the practice and what phases of fire fighting would be practiced by the men. The house was prepared ahead of time and before the struct ture was reduced to ashes, the men had the opportunity to learn; entering a house, by means of entry saws, axes etc., the use of smoke masks and breathing equipment, rescuing individuals, hose layout, proper ventilation to allow escape of heat, ladder work, proper engine operation, flood lighting the scene and other phases of fire fighting. Ail of the above was accomplished by the officers Igniting fires in rooms and then sending in a team to extinquish them. In order that proper fire protection would be available during this drill the tank truck and three men from Company Two were used to transport water to the scene.
