CANINE RABIES Nine cases of canine rabies have been diagnosed in Illinois during the last year, according to Robert M. Schneider, director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Of the nine cases, four were unvaccinated, three were strays with vaccination history unknown and two had current rabies vaccination. Three of the dogs were known to have been in contact with skunks or other wildlife and there was a possibility that the stray dogs had been exposed to rabid wildlife. "This illustrates," Schneider said, "that all dogs should be inoculated against rabies, that dogs that have been exposed to skunks should be considered as exposed to rabies and that a solution to skunk rabies should virtually eliminate rabies in dogs in Illinois."
