All three were presented with checks for $200 by Mrs. William R. Landin, scholarship chairman for the auxiliary. Miss Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry C. Jones, 2203 W. Country lane, McHenry, is graduating from McHenry Community high school. She plans to study nursing at St. Anthony hospital in Rockford. For the past seven months she has worked after school as a nurses' aide at the McHenry hospital. Miss Brooks, who is graduating from Crystal Lake high school will study nursing at Illinois Weslyan university in Bloomington. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brooks, 145 Lill Avenue, in Crystal Lake. Both Miss Jones and Miss Brooks will receive $200 a year for three years from the auxiliary. Mrs. Patterson, McHenry, is Something to think about: A doctor reports that people who don't think are happier and live longer than those who do. She plans to further her studies at Elgin community college, working toward an R.N. degree. Checks for their second year of scholarship work also were presented to Miss Peggy Ann Vojta, Crystal Lake, a nursing student at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, winner of the Lyle Turner scholarship award last year; Miss Susan Hobbs, Crystal Lake, studying xray technology at Rockford Memorial hospital; and Miss Jean Marie Massman, Crystal Lake, enrolled in the physical therapy course at Indiana university. Route 31 Just south of Rt. 14 Crystal Lake, 111. nry On Wednesday The public is invited to attend the Miss McHenry Contest one week from tonight, June 12, at the McHenry VFW at 7:30 p.m. Frank Low, general chairman for the McHenry Marine Festival said this week. Some innovations in the program and the presentation are planned by the persons in charge of the contest for the McHenry VFW and auxiliary of Post 4600. The VFW and auxiliary will sponsor the new Miss McHenry in the Miss McHenry County contest at the McHenry county fair. She will also reign over Marine Festival activities on July 21. As winner of the Miss McHenry contest, she and her mother will be guests of the McHenry Chamber of Commerce at Hemisfair 1968. The trip is scheduled June 20-24. Low has talked with Hemisfair officials and learned special plans are in the offing for Miss McHenry and her mother. One reason for the extra interest is that the reigning Miss Hemisfair queen lived briefly in McHenry! Judges for the contest are from out of the area and will represent Braniff Airlines and the Royal House of Aloe. During the past month these sixteen Miss McHenry candidates have been undergoing a %harm course and beauty tips conducted by Mrs. Carol Jepsen and others cooperating with the Baptists Plan Vacation Bible School Classes Monday morning at 9 a.m. marks the beginning of the seventh annual Vacation Bible school at the First Baptist church. A well-rounded program of Bible study, recreation activity and crafts have been planned for the school. Each session of the two-week school will continue until noon. Sunday, June 16, will be picnic day for the school from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Chain-O-Lakes state park. The study for 4 and 5 year olds will be "Learning About Jesus", "Wonders in God's World" will be the topic for first, second and third graders. "Pleasing God with My Life" will be the emphasis for fourth fifth and sixth graders. "More actual teaching and learning situations can 1% developed in the two weeks of Bible school than in six months of regular Sunday School", was the encouragement of John Lynch, Sunday school superintendent and junior-deacon of the church. Junior and high school pupils will serve as teacher assistants during the morning sessions and then will participate in their own study from 6 to 9 p.m. each evening. Career opportunities will be presented and guidance in "Facing Life Choices" will be the direction of the study. "Participation in the school is not limited to members of First Baptist church", Pastor Chappell, principal of the school reminds the public. "We encourage any parent who is interested in his child receiving a more adequate religious education, especially in Bible knowledge, to consider our school. The school itself is free-provided for and financed by members of the local church. Where possible, transportation will also be provided. Those interested are encouraged to call the church office, 385-0083. The faculty consists of twenty- six teachers and ten assistants. McHenry VFW auxiliary committee. Brown hair, brown eyes, finishing sophomore year in high school. She hopes to become a beautician. 2 - Kari Ann Ehlen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ehlen. Brown hair, blue eyes, senior at McHenry high school.- She plans to work as a model in Chicago this summer and would like to go to a nursing school. 3 - Kathy Freund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Freund. Brown hair, brown eyes, junior in high school. She plans to attend a nursing course at McHenry hospital and would like to become a registered nurse or a model. 4 - Roxanne Kenton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Kenton. Brown hair, blue eyes, senior at McHenry high school. She's working at McHenry hospital and plans to work there this summer. Roxanne plans to attend Barat College of the Sacred Heart this fall and wants to become a Spanish teacher. 5 - Pam Martell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.J. Martell. Blond hair, blue eyes, high school senior. She plans to work at a business in McHenry, and will attend Northern Illinois university this fall. 6 - Karen Matt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Matt. High school senior. Employed at a McHenry business and hopes to attend McHenry County Junior college and aspires to a career as an executive secretary. 7 - Marianne Mazur, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Mazur. Brown hair, hazel eyes, senior in high school. She plans to work at a McHenry business and would like to make a career out o{ the travel business. 8 - Debby Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Moore. Brown hair, blue eyes, hig^'scjrool senior. She plans to attend a beauty school and wants to join an airlines. 9 - Laura Raasch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Raasch. . She will be workT ing at home this summer and would like to attend college and work for an airlines. 10 - Sue Schneider, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Les Schneider. Brown hair, brown eyes, high school senior. She is working at McHenry hospital and wants to become a nurse. 11 - Mary Jo Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Smith. Brown hair, brown eyes, high school sophomore. She is working at a local grocery store and plans to attend cheerleading camp this summer. A vacation to California is in her future, too. Mary Jo would like to become a beautician. 12 - Ardelle Voeltz, daughter of Howard and Ruth Voeltz. Brown hair, brown eyes, high school senior. She plans to work in a store in McHenry and will attend Valparaiso university this fall. 13 - Corine Wilcox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Wilcox. Brown hair, blue eyes, high school junior. She plans to take horse back riding lessons this summer and will also do some babysitting. Corine would like to attend secretarial school and then afe'airlines school for stewardesses. 14 - Delphine Wisniewski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Wisniewski. Light brown hair, blue eyes, high school junior. She wants to work tms summer and "save money", and would like to work as a receptionist when she graduates. 15 - Andrea York, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin York. Dark brown hair, hazel eyes, high school senior. She plans to attend Western university this fall. 16 - April Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Young. Brown hair, blue eyes, high school senior. She plans to work at the Wingate Home for Mentally Retarded and aspires to a career working with mentally retarded children. The new Miss McHenry will be crowned by the retiring queen, Miss Sandra Fry, who has reigned over McHenry activities the past year. PATRICIA COTTER Mr. and Mrs. John M. Cotter, of 3120 Thayer avenue, Evanston, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Patricia Agnes, to Lieut. John Theodore Kiggins, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Kiggins of McHenry. Miss Cotter is a graduate of Edgecliff college in Cincinnati, Ohio. Lieut. Kiggins graduated from Lawrence university, Appleton, Wise. Baby ON* DEAN'S LIST Is Christened The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. David Stromberg was christened Scott Daniel on June 2, at a 1 o'clock baptismal rite at St. Thomas church* in Crystal Lake. The baby wore an heirloom dress which had been passed down from his paternal greatgrandmother, Mrs. C.A. Scribner, of Lake Zurich, which she wore 80 years ago. After the christening, dinner was served at the Strombergs' new home for the godparents, Mrs. Daniel (Patti) Bengston and Victor Miller, for Scott's 4%-year-old brother, Lee, and relatives. Mrs. Stromberg is the for/ner Janice Hettermann, daughter of the Elmer Hettermaims of McHenry. Wayne Pauly, freshman, biology major, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Pauly, 1212 Bay road, McHenry, is among sixty- four students at Blackburn college named to the dean's list for outstanding academic achievement for the Spring Semester, 1967-68. To attain the Dean's list, a student must achieve at least a B-plus average for all his courses - a minimum grade point average of 3.5 out of a possible 4.0.
