This columnist offers a million thanks to Shrine-members If you . . . o r suffer other serious accident or illness, your hospital stay could easily last until this time next year. And that might make the pain more financial than physical before you recover. That's why you need a Country Life Medical Catastrophe plan -- which covers far more than a hospital policy. For financial health, see your Country Companies agent. Your Country Companies Wilbert Hecht, Jr., his chairman - Jake Levesque, Don Wattles and Van Wilson. Donations of tickets from Shrine members are being received by Jake. Registration of the children must be completed by Sunday, July 21. DID YOU MESS US LAST WEEK? A small apology from your reporter for a lack of coverage last week. Because of the July 4 holiday, and early deadlines, it was impossible to submit copy. It has only happened twice in 15 years, and we fefil that is quite a good record. When I normally would be writing, I was on my regular job in McHenry, and even though I have the greatest, employer in the world, I felt in all honesty that she deserved my total concentration. We also extend kind words to Dor Brennan of Ringwood whose literary gems appeared under the McCullom Lake banner. - A TRULY MEMORABLE WEEKEND What a thrill it was for all of our family to greet our "daughter" - Diane Bjork Hagemarm, her handsome husband, Paul and their two beautiful children - Kelly and Karen. They were with us the last weekend in June, arriving from their home town of Marinette, Wise. We honestly felt like we were visiting with daughter, son - in-law and grandchildren. Chrys had a gorgeous time, playing "auntie" and Matt was "big uncle" and Jak e and I, the proud grandparents. Kelly Joseph is a dead ringer for his truly Grandpa - Whitey Bjork. Diane is a beautiful, slim, size 7, pale blond, and her happiness positively radiates. Tall, rangy Paul Hegemann is the reason. This reporter is extremely grateful to the couple who were home with our two kids while the storm raged. Jake came home from the Republican convention in Springfield in time to enjoy his adopted family. Daughter Dee- Dee was having a fabulous time in Decatur, representing the youth of Nativity Lutheran Wonder verttlon. She missed the,Hege*. manns but will meet them in August when she and sister Chrys journey to Wisconsin for a visit. CONVALESCING AFTER SURGERY Jeanette Hocin is recuperating following ear surgery at Skolde Valley hospital recently. It was her second bout with surgery in three weeks. Jeanette is the daughter of Sally and Tony Hocin and was doing her darndest to cover up the telltale bandages with a big fluffy roller cover. Nancy Loesch is also home from Harvard hospital, following emergency surgery for appendicitis. She visited her medic Tuesday afternoon, a week ago, -and was under the sturgeon's scalpel that same evening. Her lovely young children received excellent care from "big daddy" Sgt. Ken Loesch. A relative of Nancy's arrived to give assistance, when she came home from me hospital. VILLAGE BOARb" Hie July 4 holiday posed problems for the village board so they cancelled the July 3 meeting. Hie president and the trustees will meet Wednesday July 17 at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. FABULOUS RETURNS FOR LITTLE LEAGUE TAGGING The words in the English language are not sufficient to thank Mayor Don Doherty and the members of his City Council properly for their OK for the McCullom Lake Little League tag day, last Saturday. The organization was in financial difficulty and the multitude of people who donated nickels, quarters, dimes and bills insured the survival of the organization. Lou Swedo of West Shores Beach who also headed this year's group, conceived the idea of tag day, confronted Mayor Doherty and the Council and the program was carried out with over $500 fattening the kitty. These young impressionable lads will be leaders of our world in a short time, and certainly their association with Little League gives them very high standards, suitable for every walk of life. These very young guys were taught the highest in manners in meeting the public and pleading their cause. Their attitudes, from reports, were in the best of taste and we applaud their efforts. Other adults to be commended for their efforts in behalf of the program wereLou's son- Denny; Elaine and Bill Gleeson; P.J. Klapperich and his Eileen; Dorothy and Don Lorch; and Barb and Ed Caron. Thank you, Mr., Mrs. and Miss McHenry, for every cent you contributed to this worthy cause. Hie young lads tagged villagers on Sunday afternoon and met with generosity at every home. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! So, Piri afraid we have had to drop that project and extend our apologies to all you strawberry hungry people! Our next project was a talent' night. We had this on June 30. It was really something. Too bad we didn't have a Hollywood talent scout present. At that meeting we also decided on letting the incoming freshmen join if they want to. But, official entry will be inthe' early September. Eighteen centuries earlier, the Roman satirist Juvenal <•£?- made a similar observation when he wrote, "A man is respected according to the amount of money he has in his coffers." A person with ready money deserves respect because he evidences a command over himself and his resources. The person who scifapes from pay day to pay day gets only pity. See how your self-respect grows with the size of your savings account. Just take a little from each pay check ... and watch it develop. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE SAYING?
