McHenry and Woodstock had 6-1 records for the first round of league play, so this was the playoff game which was played at Crystal Lake. McHenry jumped off to a big • lead in the first inning by scoring four -runs, but Woodstock scored in every inning thereafter. There were a lot of hits cm both sides, but the big story is told on this statitic, left on base - Woodstock 4, McHenry 9. Their hits came at the right time, ours didn't. Tom Janik pitched six innings and gave up only two walks and struck out ten but he gave up eleven hits including two home runs. McHenry plays Lake-In-Theffills Wednesday night at McHenry. McHenry can still win the County Trophy if they can play good ball the rest of the way. Bluebirds Lose To Falcons S8SS: iss rtr , J", ^ 1 b Independence Day was not the Bluebird's day as they lost their first game of the season to the Falcons. The Major - Minor and Miniature leagues consists of approximately 250 boys. Their hustle on the field deserves a standing room attendance so patronize your favorite team as the season draws to an end on July 18th. . Earl Walsh The National League did it again in the All-Star game and many people have reminded us of the outcome. Those who say pitching is the name of the game can say it a- SO I HEAR Sports Editors gain. The way Marichal was firing that ball over the corners we can't see how anybody ever gets a hit off his offerings. He's wicked. Babe Ruth News The new and enlarged field at the VFW was dedicated on Sunday, July 7 between games. The program ran as follows: Managers introduced their coaches and the young men on the team. The wonderful Color Guard presented and then posted the Colors with all teams represented. All those present saluted a grand flag for a wonderful country. An acknowledgment of gratitude was given to various businessmen who support the teams and to the wonderful sponsors of the teams. An extra salute was given to Mr. Afeld and his grand crew for the great job that they had done to help get the field ready. Also getting a four point rating was the city of McHenry and Fred Meyers with his crew with their supervision in co-ordinating theentire field. Mr. Easl Walsh was the Emissary from our great city of McHenry as our Mayor had previous commitments. Mr. Walsh has been a great supporter of baseball for youth back to the days he had helped to get our former Pony League started and had held an officer's position for a'number of years. Mr. Walsh gave a wonderful speech for the youth of McHenry and the sponsors plus the backing given by the men of business and the support given by the parents. As a bystander and a fan of boy's baseball, I would like to add my Thank You to the wonderful people of a great town known as the city of McHenry. Thank you all. Joe Prazak One would wonder how that great array of hitters on the Star teams could be handcuffed for nine innings. Looks like the rules will have to call for a larger ball and wider bat. One thing that has to come is a helmet and mask arrangement for totters. The latest victim of the high, inside pitch is Bill Voss with a battered cheek bone. We have often mentioned that the abuse of freedoms in this country has ruined the respect we once saw in evidence. We recently saw a comic on TV imitating voices and mannerisms of "President Johnson and all the various candidates^, who hope to succeed him. The studio crowd laughed their, heads off. It was funny if wily one could be sure those things do not undermine the structure of our country. Maybe we Should reflect on a few things and not wonder where some young people get their ideas and lack of respect. ' At this point we have finished listening to the Chicago World Series and the White Sox power came through for a 1-0 victory. This may keep some of those National League fans off our back. But, come to think of it, they will think of something. THREE IN A ROW FOR HARRIS AT WILMOT Wilmot, Wis., - July 6 Whitey Harris of Lake Villa, driving the Purse-snatcher modified stock car, won his third straight feature race in a row at the Kenosha County Speedway before the largest crowd of the season. - Ten lap heat races were won by Chuck Henne, Al Schill, Dean Kruze and Bill Bohn. Bill Bohn actually went into the lead twice for his win. The first came when leader Tom Anderson had to stop for a spun out Claue Potter. This brought out the red flag and on the restart Bohn moved in front a second time. Chuck Henne came back to win a second time in the semifeature race over Al Schill, Jim Bozeman, Bob Diedrich and Jimmy Hedges. Eddie Loomis, who set fast time for the first time this year finished only seventh in the feature race. Behind Sullivan in second in the feature, was Roger Otto, Ken Hanson, Bill Bohn and Ray Dobbs. In the late model stock car events, Arnie Haussman of New Berlin, tried hard to make his birthday on Sunday a double celebration by winning the feature race in this class, but although he led up until the last lap, Herb Ahrnet of Milwaukee took th e lead and the win. Haussman had some consolation in the fact that he won a previous heat race. Other heat races were won by Clearance . Launderville of Rockford and Mike Jacob* of Milwaukee. Chuck Chadwick had the wind knocked out of him when his car rolled in the fourth heat for the late models. A brief rest put him in much better shape than his badly damaged stocker. Dear So I Hear, That article about cleaning up the weeds is the best idea I've heard in a long time. Let's keep this thing rolling, maybe somebody will heed. What a happy day that would be, if everybody in the city would cut their weeds. Thank You C.K. Miller The expression "by the sweat of thy brow" is not from the Bible, but from Milton. The Bible does say, in Genesis 3:19, "In the sweat of thy face". Boston, in U845, passed laws prohibiting bathing between Nov. 1 and Mjtr^h 15, except on a doctor's order!" All people are born free, says the Declaration of Independence -- yet many men marry, and spoil it all.
