YOUNG TEENS DANCE Beside all the other events planned for the picnic carnival POOR PEOPLE'S PICNIC A group of forty-two guests gathered at the home of Midge and Don Teuber on Sunday, July 28 for a "Poor People's Picnic". They were all families whose husbands work with Don and getting together to share their mutual problems gave them all a lift and everyone had a good time. PROEFROCKS ENTERTAIN The Proefrocks guest room has been well occupied for the past week, with Mayo's aunt, Margaret Cook, arriving on Sunday, July 28 and staying until Friday, August 3 and Janice and Joe Boryca from North lake, arriving on Friday evening and staying until Sunday, August 4. 0 - ' CSUTIS VISIT FROM HOLIDAY HILLS Barb and Frank Csuti and their children, Lynn, Kathy, Barbara Jo and Debby, came back for a brief visit with friends in Holiday Hills. They stayed with Lorraine and Dick Bemls and on Saturday, July 27, they picnicked with the Bemis and the Uelman families. Former residents here in Holiday Hills, they now reside in Cumberland Wis. Another daughter, Sandy did not accompany her parents here. ATTEND ISLAND LAKE LUNCHEON Lorraine Bemis, Pat Roth, Delores Proefrock and Margaret Cook enjoyed a pleasant afternoon last Wednesday, July 31, as they attended the annual Island Lake luncheon and gardeii party. This year the luncheon was held at the home of Sophia Luka in Giant Oaks. A bake sale0 was held along with the luncheon and Lorraine is a member of the club. EXAMINATION DATES ANNOUNCED FOR ACADEMIES It was announced by U.S. Representative Robert Mc- Clory (R-Lake Bluff) that the United States Civil Service commission will hold a make-, up examination on Tuesday,. Aug. 20 for applicants for appointment to the United States military academies who were unable to take the test on July 9. The purpose of the examination is to provide an objective testing method which will aid Senators and Representatives in the selection of appointees , to the United States Air Force academy, the United States Merchant Marine academy, the United States Military academy* and the United States Naval academy. In the past, the Civil Service commission has held a late fall examination, usually in early November, with a make up examination in December* However, the United States Naval academy has requested that nominations to the academy by members Of Congress be submitted by early December. Thus the latest examination to be given this year will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 with a makeup test on saturoay, N'OV. ». ON PARADE California state champs, the Velvet Knights of Anaheim, will perform in exhibition at the 1968 State Fair of Wisconsin's "World's Fair Pageant of Bugles and Drums'. Their guest appearance is set for Saturday, • Aug. 10 at State Fair Park in West Allis. The Velvet Knights were unable to enter the second annual drum and bugle competition due to an overwhelming response to this year's contest which led to the early closing of entries. The crops will perform enroute to Detroit where they will participate in the national drum and bugle championship. BIBLE SCHUUL TO OPEN AUG. S IN CITY CHURCH The annual Vacation Bible school of the Alliance Bible church, 3813 W. John street, In McHenry, will be, held August 5 through 16. The theme this year is "God's Son for Our World". The VBS is being held at a new time, 1:30 to 3:30 each afternoon. All children ages three years and older are invited to attend. The pastor. Rev. Gerald L. Robertson, is this year's director. He states that the planned program includes daily worship, Bible stories, missionary stories, recreation, refreshments, Bible memory work and handcraft projects. The curriculum will be centered around the Bible, and will stress the need for full trust in God's Son, Jesus Christ for Salvation. They have a son in the army, Ray, Jr., but he is home at the present time and a daughter, a senior in the McHenry high school. The folks in our neighborhood were shocked to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. Harker of 1108 Sommerset. Folks from Whispering Oaks went to hear the Air Force band concert, on Thursday evening. It was just grand and something to be proud of. Members of the Senior Citizens of Whispering Oaks enjoyed being in the Fiesta Da^ parade, even tho it was on a hay rack, but watch for us next year???? My husband and I were treated by Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell to a. lovely ride on their Cabin Cruiser on the Fox River. Kelly Ann Walner'is staying with her grandparents on Sussex drive for the week. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Walner, will come on the weekend to visit and take Kelly Ann back home with them. Among the recent additions to the utility's film library are three color documentaries originally produced for television which won a total of six Emmys at the 1968 awards ceremony of the Chicago chapter of the national Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The films are "The Giants and the Common Men", "The Many Moods of Ravinia", and "The World of Andrew Wyeth". Also available to the public is an hourlong color film which appeared on television last month entitled "Mies van der Rohep The Master Builder".
