Paul was a delegate from Illinois and Rich attended as a visitor. A lot of sightseeing was done throughout their week's stay when the convention wasn't in session, (business before pleasure, you know). Sunday was spent taking a walking tour of the historical city with its crooked and narrow streets to such places as: the Public Gardens, BeaconSt., the State House, the Boston Common, Old Canary Burying ground, where Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, John Hancock and many other statesmen are buried. They went on to the King®s Chapel, Old State House, Paul Revere House, Old North Church,, Old South Meeting House, St. Stephen's church, which was designed byTflchard Bulfinch and restored to its 'original design by Richard Cardinal Cushing in 1965. One of the highlights was the U.S.S. Constitution ( Old Ironsides) which was visited in the Navy yard at Charleston. Sunday evening the foursome attended the convention banquet at which His Eminence John Cardinal Cody, Archbishop of Chicago and spiritual director, gave the main address. Monday morning the convention was opened with a solemn Pontificial High Mass at St. Paul's church in Cambridge, con-celebrated by His Eminence John Cardinal Cody. His Eminence Richard Cardinal Cushing, Archbishop of Boston, preached. At noon, the men attended a luncheon for all the Illinois delegates and the ladies were present at the ladies luncheon and social. Tuesday morning a Memorial Low Mass for deceased members was celebrated by Right Rev. Monsignor Alfred Julien, J.C.D., at Our Lady of Victories church in Boston. The church was Just a block from the Hotel where all the delegates and guests stayed and where all the convention meetings took place. In the evening there was a bus trip to Nanasket Beach for a shore dinner. Here everyone had a glimpse of a very foggy Atlantic Ocean. Other places of interest visited while in Boston were the Prudential Tower, the Mapporium, at the Christian Science Publishing house, museum of Fine Arts, and the Boston University. In Cambridge at Harvard University, the Agassiz museum was visited to view the Ware collection of glass flowers. Also the site of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library, Massachusetts Institution of Technology, and Radcliffe and a tour of the Longfellow house. The Bill Althoffs and the Fred Meyers of McHenry and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wherle of Elgin attended the convention as the other delegates from the Northern Illinois Association of C.O.F. I don't think it is necessary to add the entire group had a real swell time, but they sure did! Of course, there are advantages. Like the time a bully beat me up--my brothers followed me to school for two weeks. They wouldn't have fought him, but he didn't know that. Every night they worked out with me. Finally, I took him on and won. My brothers are first-rate in everything--studies and athletics. There's nothing wishy-washy about them --if they don't think something's right, they say so. When there was a "walk-out" at school, they squashed it, practically single-handed. Because our parents have always taken us to church and taught us God's way, my brothers are strong-principled and good. I aim to be like them. Your church is a training ground for integrity! THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizen* ship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible dally. Copyright 1968 Keittrr Advertising Servic«, Inc., Straiburg, Va, IS, Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday . Fridgy.
