After twenty-six days of conducting strike operations off the coast of North Vietnam in the Tonkin Gulf, Constellation recently spent an eight-day rest and relaxation period at Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines. \ Constellation started its fourth copibat tour on Yankee station in the Gulf of Tonkin in late June. During the twenty-six day operating period Constellation pilots attacked more than forty assorted artillery and anti- aircraft sites, destroyed or damaged seventy trucks and left nearly sixty barges sunk or damaged. . Several tables of golf as well as bunco were In play. The members of the McHenry Country Board of Supervisors and their wives and friends will meet for their annual picnic. They will leave McHenry by boat and go to the Bald Knob hotel on Pistakee Lake for dinner. If weather is favorable the party will take a trip through Fox and Grass Lakes visiting the lotus beds. It is expected that about 150 will be present. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Justen in company with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sutton and children returned Tuesday from a nine days trip through Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. Walter, Chester and Esther Colby, children of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Colby, returned Sunday from a Waukegan hospital, where they had their tonsils removed on Saturday. All three are doing nicely. The marriage of Miss Lillian Smith and Mr. Lyle Hopper, both of Ringwood, took place at Woodstock Aug. 17. The members of the Linger Longer club with several of their friends enjoyed a picnic at Shaid's Park at Griswold Lake. A picnic dinner with all kinds of good things to eat was served and games and swimming were enjoyed by those present. 'Miss Margery Whiting has resigned her position at Springfield to accept one as bookkeeper for the Overton Motor Sales at Crystal Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Martin held "open house" at their farm home west of Spring Grove in honor of his brother, William Martin, of Waukegan who is leaving for the U.S. Army. In a 5 o'clock ceremony performed at St. Mary's church on Sunday afternoon, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Winkel was christened William John. Friends here have received word from Mrs. Lola Walsh of Los Angeles, Calif., a former McHenry resident, telling how happy she was to receive congratulations from so many of her old friends on her eightyeighth birthday which was celebrated Aug. 13 at the home of her son, Richard. A wedding of interest to local folks occurred August 19 in the rectory of St. Mary's Catholic church united in marriage Miss Dorothy Matthews of this city and Staff Sgt. Edward L. Buchert of Richmond now serving in Jackson, Miss. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cox and family left last week for California where he will be employed by the Southern Pacific railroad. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Aug. 14, 1958) St. John's Lutheran church in Island Lake was the setting for a very beautiful wedding on Aug. 9 uniting in-marriage Miss Patricia Rad of Johnsburg and Mr. George Barber, Jr., of McHenry. The Pony League wound up its season on Sunday with two games, the first between the Giants and the Cards with the Cards winning. Paul Morenz had a busy afternoon hitting two borne runs and pitching the game. Between games Earl Walsh, master of ceremonies* introduced the officers of the league, the sponsor, the manager, coaches and members of the winning team, the Braves. Charles Brown, the president of the league, assisted by Bart Yegge, secretary, presented a trophy to Chuck Miller, who sponsored the champion team. Louie Swedo, the manager, Fred Peterson and Charles Corso, coaches, and each member of the Braves received individual trophies for winning the championship of the league. Bobby Gates, all around player for the team, received an autographed ball for hitting the most home runs. Raymond J. Lilja of this area escaped with minor Injuries when his car went out of control and overturned several times on RU120 and the Johnsburg blacktop road. An entire lifetime covering almost three quarters of a century ended in the death of Joseph C. Holly of McHenry who died last week at the Villa Rest home after sey^ral wee% of poor health. - -: 0.
