"I haven't time" is the worlds poorest excuse. You have all the time there is, 24 brand new tours every day, and nobody has any more than that. i. Be Wise Shop In McHenry The one and only " in town" home to be featured on Holiday Hospitality Day, Oct. 2, sponsored by the Woman's auxiliary of Memorial hospital for McHenry county, Wednesday, Oct. 2, is that of the H. Joseph Gitlins. It's a stunning two story contemporary home, standing at the end of Margaret drive in Woodstock. Completed in 1966, the house is of brick and rough sawn bat 'n board cedar and is painted an enhancing blue-grey-and green. Gracing the landscape in the rear of the home is an asymmetric-shaped swimming pool. In the warm summer months the pool is "where the action is" for Val and Joe and their two children as well as their friends. A walk through the house soon reveals its unique individuality, reflecting the tastes and interests of the owners. There's an interesting blend of the very old and very new, combining antiques, and artifacts, angles and abstracts. For example, a striking sixfoot - wide abstract painting, which dominates one white wall greets the visitor as she steps into the living room from the front entrance. The abstract was done for the Gitlins by a close friend,, a talented musician. To the left of the living room OBSERVE NATIONAL Y-tNDIAN GUIDE WEEK SEPT. IS -21 One of this country's most successful programs to cement father-son relations will be commemorated during the National Y-Indian Guide Week, on Sept. 15 to 21. The Lake Region YMCA, at 65 N. Williams street in Crystal Lake, is proud to be the sponsor of this program in ten communities. During this week, the 'Y* is planning to conduct a group of special meetings, aimed at organizing new tribes for boys in first and second grades and their dads. Seventeen tribes will be hosting these informational programs, and the purpose of the meetings is to build an even larger Lake Region YMCA Indian Guide Nation. Y-Indian Guides provides opportunities for dads to be active with their six-to-nine year old sons for guidance and reassurance, a practice that often continues for the remainder of their lives. In honor of the program, the Lake Region YMCA is proud to be the recipient of a Proclamation from the Governor of the State of Illinois, bearing his signature and proclaiming that: " Whereas, Y-Indian Guides of the Young Men's Christian Association has made a positive impact upon the relationship between fathers and sons, and "Whereas, the Y-Indianguide plan fosters wholesome recreation and opportunities for boys to develop completely in body, mind and spirit, and "Whereas, the expansion of the Y-Indian Guide program, with its obvious advantages as a unique family-building program, is deserving of our support: "Now, therfore, I, Samuel H. Shapiro, Governor of the State of Illinois, do hereby proclaim that Sept. 15-21, 1968, shall be Y-Indian Guide Week in Illinois, and urge our citizens to strengthen this worthy movement by their participation in a manner fitting and proper." With this document, Gov. Shapiro has added his personal endorsement and well wishes to a long list of responsible public officials from many states, who have deemed it fitting and proper to recognize the advantages of this type of program in contributing to young boy's mental, social and spiritual development. . The most recent participation county in Y-Indian Guides program for the entire United States is 19,600 composed of 293,400 big and little braves. The Lake Region YMCA presently has seventeen tribes with 300 big and little braves. If the present trend continues for the next decade through 19- .77, it is possible that there ^wpuld be 29,000 tribes with more than one-half million fathers and sons in the program. GITLIN RESIDENCE entry stands a sturdy trunk brought from Norway in 1837 by Val's great grandmother. A massive bronze statue poses on a book shelf to one side of 3 floor-to-ceiling clinker brick fireplace. The statue was a gift from Joe's brother. Near the fireplace is a heavy hand-carved Italian chair covered in elephant hide-guaranteed to wear well by anyone's standards! In the dining room, attention is immediately drawn to an elegant pier table,, picked up by the Gitlins for a "song" at a bargain barn. An authentic Russian sanovar perches on top. Above the table hangs a beautiful "Head of Christ" painted by another family friend.
