The effective use of lights to illuminate trees and shrubs at night make it one of the city's most beautiful buildings. Other buildings cited by the council for their beautification work are the professional building on Rt. 120, Morrie's Citgo Station, U.S. Post Office, McHenry Public Library (planted by the McHenry Garden club), Casual Shoppe, Admiral Plant, McHenry Savings and Loan, Green Pearl club and Elm Street Clark station. The council, members of which announced this week that other photos would be printed again in the Spring, said special mention should be made to Miss Frances Vycital for her pleasing garden in the courtyard of Vycital's Hardware store. ADVISORY BOARD AT WONDER LAKE ELECTS OFFICERS Approximately twenty - five subdivision delegates, alternates and visitors were present for the slated election of officers of the Wwider Lake Advisory board on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Wonder Lake fire house. The session was called to order by Chairman Lewis Belshaw. Jim BixJ>y, delegate from HickoryP&lls, subdivisions I and W, was appointed secretary pro-tem. Wonder Woods Delegate Orville Gosse made a motion that the advisory board donate $200 to the Master association "Fish program" in memory of the late Dr. Wise. After debate, the motion was approved, with seven delegates assenting and one abstention. Hie board also voted to continued the dual program for 1969 as a service to Wonder Lake residents. Chairman Belshaw expressed appreciation to the delegates for past support but said he would not accept the chair for another term as he would be actively seeking a committeemanship. With Dr. Watkins acting as temporary chairman, the floor was opened for nomination of officers. Several were made for chairman but were declined by the nominees. The choice however, was limited for according to the by-laws, only elected delegates may serve as officers. A proposal by Mr. Bixby that he would assume the secretary's duties if Mr. Belshaw would continue as chairman was adopted by the delegates. Orville Gosse was then elected vice-chairman and John Ducey assumed the treasurer's duties. Due to difficulties in obtaining qualified nominees for the board officials, a by-law committee consisting of Ray Mc- Cann, Jim Bixby and Orville Gosse was established. The committee will advise the board on possible by-law revisions. Offered again this year is Arts and Crafts for freshmen and Art and Art History for juniors and seniors. New this year is Advanced Art, an honors course for second year art students. It is a new idea in classroom management. Because of the interest and talent in the first year art program, a need for an additional year of art was filled for seventeen senior art students. These students were accepted into the honors class because pf their ability and interest. The Advanced Art class is> planned to include two hours of lecture and demonstration and three hours of independent studio work each week. One goal of this class is to provide far personal preference toward media, subject, and interest*' It is hoped that it will give op? portunity to discover the various fields of art open toCMfre; entedpeople. A responsibility given toefcch student is to plan and arrjfflBP weekly art displays fofttftie school from projects completed by the different art classes. Another contribution to the school will be to design and construct banners for mass ap^for display in the chapel. Thejwssibility of designing andpa&Jing • a mural for the school entry hall is another challenge awaiting this amitious group. • «• If you've never found a fourleaf clover, now's your chance.
