Set Up Intensive Care Unit At Area Hospital Memorial Hospital for Mc- Henry County will establish an intensive care unit with bedside monitoring units and central monitoring facilities at the nurse's station. Equipment delivery is expected about Jan. 1, Bert Hanson, administrator, said in announcing the board's decision to obtain several pieces of equipment valued at $12,000. This is the second major announcement by Memorial Hospital for McHenry County officials this month. On Oct. 2 the board announced an expansion program to bring the hospital to 240 beds in a series of three stages, starting at once with plans to be developed by the architectural firm in consultation with Hanson and department heads. The cardio-care monitoring equipment will be installed on the third floor near the nurse's station. After the construction program, the intensive care unit will be located on the south end of the present West Wing, Equipment is readily movable and quickly installed, Hanson said. Two beds will be set up for this purpose now, but equipment to handle four beds in an intensive care unit will be available as needed. Three members of the nursing staff will undergo intensive care unit work, attending three classes at Loyola university, starting Nov. 1. They are Mrs. Margaret Norgard, Mrs. El vera Schahoda and Mrs. Margaret Meyer. After they return to Memorial hospital, they will train additional personnel, assisted by Dr. Margaret Phillips and Dr. Robert Forsman, cardiologists on the medical staff, and Dr. Robert Simpson, chief of surgery. "This equipment will be used for all coronary cases that require constant heart monitoring and evaluation", said Hanson.
