Selective Service Set Out below are* questions frequently asked of the Selective Service System along with appropriate answers. Your cooperation in printing or announcing these will be in the public interest. Q. What is the first historical record of conscription of manpower for military service? A. According to the Bible, Numbers I: 2,3, the following is related: "Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls; from 20 years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel, thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies." Thus, with devine sanction, a military enumeration was conducted by a lawgiver no less than Moses himself, and Israel thereby raised a conscript army numbering 603,550. Q. How can I find out how a friend of mine in the same local board was classified at a meeting last week? A. The Military Selective Service Act provides that there shall be posted in a conspicuous place at each local board a list setting forth the names and classifications of those persons who have been classified by such local board. Q. When a registrant or other person is given a certain number of days to furnish information or perform some other duty, on what day does the tme begin to run? A. The period of days allowed a registrant or other person to perform any act or duty required of him shall be counted as beginning on the day following that on which the notice to him is posted or mailed. c jJ. No. It's just a rope ... at the breaking point. But, frankly, it's a good illustration of how a man feels when his nerves are "worn to a frazzle." The Church has never claimed that religion is a cure for frazzled nerves. But a man's Christian faith does this for him: It shows him a Purpose in life more important than mere existence. It shows him a Power more effective than his own strength. It shows him a Future more rewarding than selfish gain. And it gives him courage more lasting than the sheer force of his human will. With these spiritual resources, founded in the certainty that God understands and helps, a man never reaches "the breaking point." For when his human reserve is exhausted ... he has only begun to tap the vast reservoir of Divine Strength. THE CHURCH OF YOUR CHOICE CAN SHOW YOU THE WAY! Copyright 1968 Kfilter Advertising Service, Inc., Strasbtirg, Va. THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . . . . ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is • storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (l)For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
