Nestled in the center of the band shell in the park is the gaily decorated hut where he welcomes kiddies almost daily from now until Christmas. It is brightly illuminated at night, adding to the festive appearan Dear Warriors: This is an from one of your die hard fans. Last Friday night I feel you showed definite signs of a reawakening on the hardwood of Earl Walsh SO I HEAR It was with great pride that we accepted an invitation to attend World War One veterans' installation and dinner meeting last Thursday night at the American Legion Home. The patriotism and loyalty of these veterans never dims, tt is something that should rub off on a lot of younger people in this day and age. When speaking of the Veterans, we are not forgetting their ladies fair. They are proud Americans. While the installation ceremonies were on the serious side, the evening was not without a lot of fun. Hie ranks have thinned out and some of those highly respected veterans can never be replaced. We are reminded of a time when the late Gerald Newman remarked to Gerald Carey about us, "He is just as good as his father, but not just the same". We waited and waited in Gladstone's Sunday morning, then found that Grandma Walsh had met Grandma (Kay) Brefeldand they were talking about their grandchildren. Met Arnold Rauen the other night and he asked if we realized what day it was. We just stood there looking dumb until he told us it was Saturday night and we were missing the Lawrence Welk show. He had forgotten and so had we. We wait all week for old timers' music, then blow it! Those Chicago Bears must have something. That 17-16 win over the Rams was a real squeaker. A couple of blocked punts and deflection of a field goal gave the Bears fits. We kept thinking how great it would be to have Gale Sayers in there. Like the old acc6rdion man who plays those chords like nobody can, Sayers runs with a football like nobody can. Fighting Scots Lose To Maryknoll At Marengo The McHenry County College "Fighting Scots" lost their third game of the year this past Friday evening as they fell to a scrapping group from Mary Knoll college 77 to 66. Pat Camasta and Henry Lamkin paced the Scots with 21 points each. McHenry jumped to an early lead and held a slim 32 to 31 advantage at half time. The second half the "Knollers" were not to be denied. They threw in 44 points for a game average of 61.8 percent. Thurs. Dec. 12 McHenry will travel to DeKalb to take on Northern Illinois freshmen and Sat. Dec. 14 will go to Palos Heights to engage Trinity Christian. MCHENRY - 66 Sports Editors We never sell the Green Bay Packers short, but short they are without Bart Starr at quarterback. The Bears should have the momentum to win it next Sunday. Speaking of the Packers, Gus Freund concluded that Vince Lombardi might have known something when he retired. With a face full of pancakes at the Methodist church benefit breakfast, brunch or whatever you call it, we were surpri-- sed with a kiss on the cheek. Looked around and saw Ella Buss whom we hadn't seen in many moons. When old friends meet ~ they greet. Up to this point about 95% of our Christmas shopping has been done at home. McHenry has many real good stores. Visit them first. They are the people who are visited first all year when benefit drives are conducted. Our friend Coach Hutchinson has come to the rescue and found a reporter for us to cover wrestling matches. He will do the,, writing and Wayne Gay lord haspromis-^ ed to get some pictures. Things are shaping up. Christmas decorations in McHenry this year are sharp. A fellow should get into the spirit just driving over the streets. And seeing the activity in stores seems 'to assure us that Santa Claus is coming to town. Did you ever admire a baby and make the mistake of asking the proud mama her (the baby* s) name and get told that her is a him? Now you can watch a group of young people walking down the. street and wonder if her is a him or him is a her. Looks like that Paris peace talk will get going as soon as everybody knows where to sit. Wish they would just sit down and forget the place cards. quite upto you could shoot! in the hoop has for the last two seasons, but you showed definite signs of disciplined play throughout the contest, and or later that lid is going to- come off the bucket for you. When you had the score tied 21 all at half-time, we thought you might finally be on your way to a great upset victory. That red hot third quarter by your opponent however was your undoing. Yet even in defeat we have to be impressed with your press and terrific hustle. A word of advice to you from this (me fan might be to keep the faith, and push just that trifle bit more next weekend against Dundee and Mundelein. This fan smells a victory very soon. Keep that fine forward Pedley from going berserk, relax and shoot like, you know you can, and guts it out defensively and you wil 1 walk off with that elusive prize you have sought for lo these many months; a varsity basketball victory. Listen to your coaches and score, score, score. Sincerely, a fan, Bert Hagemann P.S. Here is the box score from your last game. WARRIORS 47 - N.CHICAGO 52 Score By Quarters: McHenry 7 14 8 18 N. Hie Freshmen will play at home Saturday, December 14, against Cary-Grove. vm.4 CITY EROSION . . . Farmers have no corner on the land erosion problem. This gully in Ramapo, New York was caused by concentration of runoffs from areas lacking topsoil. Nationally, sediment damages and dredging costs due to erosion reach a half billion dollars a year. Many of these damages are avoidable through good land use and conservation measures. fg ft P t Lamkin 10 1 3 21 Taylor 4 1 5 9 Jasperson 1 0 1 2 Scornavacco 5 1 1 1 Camasta 10 1 3 21 Leigh 0 0 1 0 Mach 1 0 2 2 Fiedler 0 0 1 0 MARY KNpLL - 77 Hull 12 5 2 29 Bolton 6 1 0 13 O'Connor 8 1 4 17 Ganahl 4 1 5 9 Stackhouse 4 0 1 8 Par cell 0 0 0 0 Gavin 0 1 0 1 Sender 0 0 1 0 L'AjDfzR*?/: Y* ri 34A,' &r S WJOHOH ANW H7ZSA DL rA/// SP tSfCf ST M r J£,PyS, t J T* vr /.' .336£ , T7V7a n,S .if- •£& •?<s / p fg ft tp Rick Cooper 4 1 9 Jim Hurches 4 4 12 Jeff Novotney 0 2 2 Don Prazak 4 o" 8 Mark Steinsdrofer 3 1 7 Be Wise Shop In McHenry FUMTtMB IS BOMtM TIME SPECIAL!! 3 Lines $1.00 No Age Limit WED.
