FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dee. 27, 1928) - The McHenry Pleasure club celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary at the club rooms on Green street Thursday evening of last week, their being about thirty-'five present to enjoy a roast turkey lunch. The McHenry Pleasure clubwas organized in the winter of 1902, but the equipment was not completed and the club going good until 1903. At the present time there are but three of the charter members still residing in McHenry, being Jacob Justen,F.G. Schreiner and Dr. D. G. Wells. The three-year course covers aspects of law, appraising, financing, trading, investments, management, shopping centers, franchising, ethics, exchanging and many more. ASKS HELP FOR BIAFRAN RELIEF Congressman Robert Mc- Clory (Rep-Lake Bluff) urged 12th district residents to join in emergency efforts to aid th§ Biafran people through contributions of food, clothing, medical supplies, and money. The Congressman stated that a Biafran relief vessel, chartered and paid for by the Dutch people, arrived in NeW York i,^City on Jan. 4. "To meet the | urgent needs of the Biafrans, this ship must be loaded with food and supplies and enroute by Jan. 11," said McClory. Noting that the English and Canadian people have already responded with their aid, McClory asked that "all Americans - and particularly residents. of the 12th district - join wholeheartedly , in^ this humanitarian effort. This is the type of direct people-to-people assistance which is in the finest tradition of international cooperation. I am also pleased to note that the United States government has recently indicated that it will make available eight cargo planes to assist in flying food and supplies to the people of Biafra." Congressman McClory concluded by congratulating his colleague, Senator Charles E. Goodell (Rep-New York), on his work in bringing the Biafran relief ship to America and in seeking congressional support for aiding the Biatran people.
