PG 6 - PLAINDEALER - WED. JAN. lt5, 1969 Earl Walsh SO I HEAR Warriors Drop ; Sqseaker To Crystal Lake Tigers \ A* It must be the kiss of death. We picked Baltimore over the Jets in the big football game played Sunday. You knoVv what happened. 0 / The Colts of Baltimore looked like old nags compared with the Jets. The last time we watched the Colts they were as frisky as you please. Joe Namath popped off all week about what his team would do, then went out and did it. He really looked like 4 million bucks in this championship game. Sports Ediipr thy of great, big, strong men. That 612 for Lou LaBay looks ^rrxighty nifty. *> Walked in to buy our morning paper ait the Krause newstand this morning and the girl1 who dishes out the papers (and more) noticed our "code in da head." That young girl turned into mother hen with a blast, "That's what you get ... wear your* mittens one day ... take 'em off the next." She had seen those new bag mitts we sported for a few days. ^-- The orange and black of Mo- Henry dropped a narrow 46-42 decision last Friday night to the Tigers of Crystal Lake. It was "B thriller all the way and a tough one to lose. Sports can use more of those colorful characters. They put life in the games. You can bet that many thou- . sands of football fans sat in the Orange Bowl just to see Joe Namath either get knocked on his pants or back up his bragging. They saw both. But, Joe wasn't down on the turf too much. J. Remember way back when the ladies (the so-called weaker sex) had to struggle to roll a bowling ball down the alley? Now, look at 'em! Lake Zurich edged McHenry 20-19 in a game that was close all the way. Just a couple ofifs and that would have been McHenry" s game. Some of those boys have learned the right moves, but coordination will have to follow. We know one thing -- they should shoot free throws in the back yard next summer. Those free shots win a lot of games. We enjoyed the game more than a little bit and plan to see more.. to 58 as Don Jenkins sank 2 free throws with 20 seconds re1 maining in the contest. These twobackcourt scrappers gave the opposing guards fits with their constant harrassment and pressure defense. Surprisingly, the Warriors held their own on the boards with the much largdt TJgers, but the story of the ball game was written in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. The Tigers came out of their comfortable zone defense in the last stanza and forced some key turnovers which resulted in three quick buckets and a tie .score. For the rest of tftfe period the teams traded mistakes, fouls, and some nightmare officiating decisions until the closing two minutes when the Tigers capitalized on tw.) Warrior floor errors and cashed them in on a basket and a brace of rree throws. Once again McHenry gave the eood effort, but once figain it was too little too late. Basically the ball club played their opposition even, but the lack of a clutch score late in the contest sealed the.loss. This Friday we journey to do battle with the struggling Cats of Libertyville, and then it's Saturday night at home against the burly ZeeBees from Zion-Benton. Perhaps our recent resurgence will carry us far enoujjh to taste some of the sweet fruits of victory again. See ya there. 29 15 11 73 24 38 32 35 56 73 Registrations Continue For YMCA Activities JMASELLO'S THURS-NITE .LADIES T.N.T.
