WHISPERING OAKS Gertrude Disney HONOR MOTHER AT NINETIETH BIRTHDAY PARTY PAULINE BROSCHEID * We had a lovely birthday £ party for my mother, Mrs. J- Pauline Broscheid, who was 90 years old. She lives in £ Waussau, Wis.,intheRibMoun- . tain area. The mountain is in her back yard so to speak, lot of skiers out and snow mobiles. Truly a winter wonderland. We planned a birthday dinner for the occasion, and had her friends there and old acquaintances. Mother was so thrilled with the party and the birthday0 cake - lot of candles? We took pictures also so she will be reminiscing at her home about her wonderful birthday party.- WHISPERS ABOUT FOLJCS William Boetter of 4609 Ashley is getting better and better, after his misfortune several months ago. OUR TRIP OUT WEST Our original plans were to take a train directly home after spending the intended time in the Los Angeles area but our friends in Long Beach convinced us that we should make a stop at Las Vagas, Nevada, since we were so close and had never been there, so we selected a different railroad, one that took us to Las Vegas. On Tuesday morning after spending two interesting days in Saugus, our friends drove us to the Union Station intL_os Angeles where we purchased our tickets to Chicago with one day stop over in Las Vegas. The railroad company was very accommodating and arranged for our hfctel reservations "in Las Vegas*V,as well as giving us free ticfe^s for a bus ride to Hoover Dam which is 20 miles away from Las tyegas. We still had some time before train time and our friends were still with us so we had a nice dinner and . enjoyed a little more of downtown Los Angeles. At 2:30 we said goodby to our friends and boarded'the train for Las Vegas which was a 5% hour ride. The route took us through a dry desert country and at times through big mountains but as day light faded the country was very desolate and almost total darkness. What a remarkable contrast when we approached the city. It was like entering fairyland with all the bright lights of all the luxurious hotelcasinos out on what is known as "The Strip," which runs about 2 or 3 miles out of the city to the west and along the railroad. The boys met us at the station as they had left San Diego the day before and had planned to meet us here. They had made reser- T H E World ! <r Of Pharmacy vations for us at a new motel out on the strip so it was necessary. for us to cancel the reservations made by the railroad. After checking in the boys said that since our forty-first weding anniversary was to be in a few days, we would celebrate by being their guests where Carol Channing was playing. So although it was nearly midnight, "past our normal bedtime", we took in her show. After a little maneuvering on the part of the boys with one of the ushers, we were able to get a table right at the foot lights, and when Miss Channing first appeared we were able to shake hands with her and after her show she presented me with the rhinestone bracelet she was wearing, I value this souvenir. After the show, we visited a number of the casinos which were going full speed at this time of night, and about 4 a.m. we wearily made our wav to our motel and welcome beds after another long and exciting day knowing full well it will brifig an end to our adventure. Donald Donerty R.PH. Robert Schultz, R.Ph.. WELCOME NEWS ... for the sufferer from Gout. A recent development is a new drug called "Allopurinol". With its proper use there need be no recurrence of gouty attacks - and gouty arthritis is well controlled. Gout, in spite of all the jokes and funny cartoons is not caused by wine, wickedness and high living. It is the condensation of uric acid in the blood. The uric acid then settles in the joints usually at the base of the big toe, and to the afflicted it's no joke - it hurts! Allopurinol and its predecessor, Probenecid, prevent this uric acid formation and the patient can live a normal life on a regular diet. Of course, only your doctor is qualified to diagnose and prescribe. See him now and prevent trouble later. Yes, we have Allopurinol in stock. At BOLGER'S DRUG STORE ... 1259 N.
