Karen is the daughter of Mrs. John Valiiere of Geneva and the late Jesse Hendrix. Douglas is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melville Sellek of Wonder Lake. A 1963 graduate of Mooseheart high school, Karen received her Bachelor of Arts degree in June, 1967, from Blackburn college. She is presently an admission counselor for Blackburn. Douglas graduated from McHenry high school, also attended Blackburn college and is serving in the U. S. Army in Vietnam. Due to theabsence of the treasurer, Secre- * < £ Hold Junior •J | High Dance A special treat is in store for < the junior high youth who attend t; the Feb. 14 Lake Region YMCA Z* junior high dance. Two musical Z~ groups are scheduled to present the live music for that evening. The monthly junior high S dances are held at the Lake wood Village hall, 2500 Lake avenue, C Crystal Lake. Doors to the hall open at 7:10 p.m. and the dancing begins at 7:30 p.m. and continues until 10 p.m. Once in the hall, youth are not permitted to leave unless they are accompanied by an adult. No youth will be admitted after 8 p.m. except in the case of emergency. The YMCA provides adequate adult supervision during the dancing. Parents of the youth attending the dance are requested to see that their youth are picked up promptly at 10 p.m. and are not allowed to wander around in the area alone. The junior high dances are free to members of the Lake Region YMCA and there is a small admission fee to nonmembers. Refreshments are served during the dancing, free of charge. Valentine Ball Serves As Kick-Off Activity A gala Valentine's Day ball will be presented by the Mc Henry Women for United Cerebral Palsy on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 8:30 o'clock at the Legion home in McHenry. The event will serve as a kick-off event in the current campaign. Feature of the evening will be the crowning of a queen at 10 o'clock, selected by chance from among the women present. Several gift certificates will be presented to the fortunate lady, made possible by donations of local merchants. Hors (f oeuvres will be served, buffet style, at 11 p.m. Couples interested in attending are asked to contact Mrs. Norman Schmaling or Mrs. Anthony Varese. Mrs. Jerry Boehm, president of the Blackhawk region, will be present, along with Miss Barbara Carroll of Elmhurst, Women's State committee chairman, and other state officers. The UCP Blackhawk region covers ten counties, including McHenry. McHenry Women for U.C.P. is a new organization which will be working on special events to help support the program in this area. Dance Committee Chairman Fred Romadka termed the recent Advisory board dinnerdance a financial success when he submitted his committee's final report. Romadka said that the affair realized a net profit of $403.52 from ticket sales and special features. * Board ifcehitorfefcresent congratulated Mr. Romadka, John Moore, Bud Clark andthe other members of the committee for a job well done. Special acknowledgement in the form of a letter will be sent to Mesdames Julie Puhl, Sally Gahagen, Joanne Gran, Nellie Dzierozynski, Betty Belshaw, Kay Belshaw and Joan Rankin, the ladies who worked so hard to make the dance a success. The Advisory board also expressed sincere appreciation to the forty-three business establishments in Wonder Lake, McHenry and Woodstock who so generously assisted. The purpose of the dance was to raise funds to help liquidate the deficit on the Master association's fish rehabilitation program. On a motion by Willard Hartung, seconded by Russ Belshaw, $350. of the proceeds were turned over to the Master association for this use. Mars of Crystal Lake announce the engagement of their daughter, Joyce, to Daniel Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vol'ney Brown of McHenry. It is most gratifying when you realize that mutual cooperation between the Advisory board and the Master association contributed to the success of the dance". Secretary James Bixby then gave a progress report on the "Decal Program". Hesaidthat all the participating subdivisions had received their 1969 decals. The decals are priced at 18-1/2 cents per set of two. Secretary Bixby said that three subdivisions had already sent checks for the decals they purchased. MARRIAGE LICENSES Jim H. BAKE SALE The McHenry Senior Citizen club invites the public to support its bake sale on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the McHenry State bank from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. FOR FAST RESULTS CALL 385-0170 St. Patrick's Catholic church was the setting for a beautiful wedding on Saturday, Feb. 8, in which Miss Roberta Donnelly exchanged nuptial Vows with Mr. Donald Scharfenorth. Miss Donnelly is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Donnelly of 1213 N. Riverside drive, McHenry. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Scharfenorth of 1411 Park drive, Round Lake. Rev. Fr. Eugene Baumhofer officiated at the 2:30 double ring nuptial rite for which Marion Nelson was soloist, accompanied by Sister Andreella on the organ. Two altar arrangements consisted of red and white mixed flowers. The bride also placed a bouquet on .the Blessed Virgin's altar at the conclusion of the wedding. Given in marriage by her father, she walked down the aisle to meet her bridegroom, pretty in a white velvet, empire fashion gown. It was styled with high jewel neckline adorned with Venice type lace which was repeated in the long wrist length angel sleeves and front of the A-line skirt. Her detachable, chapel length train was also bordered with the same kind'of lace. <> A nylon illusion, two-tiered bouffant veil fell from a velvet pillbox crown highlighted with Venice lace. She carried a bouquet of red roses with stephanotis. Mrs. Ruth Kibbe of McHenry acted as matron of honor and bridesmaids were Miss Trudy Gende of McHenry and Miss Janet Scharfenorth of Round Lake, sister of the groom. They were attired in rouge-colored velvet, floor length gowns and carried white marabou feathered muffs with white marabou feathered pillbox hats. The little flower girl, Miss Jill Freund of McHenry, was dressed identically to the other attendants and carried a basket of red and white flowers. Her headpiece was of white marabou feathers. \ Kenneth Scharfenorth of Round Lake served as best man and groomsmen were Steve Thoma of Round Lake and Tim Donnelly of McHenry. Ushers were Ted Stefaniak of Round Lake and James Donnelly of McHenry. J Michael Gende of McHenry served as ring bearer. Mrs. Donnelly was attired in a ruby red colored saki costume suite and wore a mink draped turban. Her corsage was of miniature white carnations, worn on her purse. Mrs. Scharfenorth selected a beige with brown lace cage style dress and a miniature white carnation corsage. A reception at the V.F.W. clubhouse immediately followed the ceremony, attended by 180 friends and relatives. The bride is a graduate of McHenry high school and attended Illinois State university. She is employed as secretarylibrarian at Kendall Research center, Barrington. Mr. Scharfenorth is a graduate of Round Lake high school and the Ray- Vogue School of Photography in Chicago. FEB. 12, 1969 Musicians lr\ Program At Opera House A program of works for flute, violin and piano will be performed Thursday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. at the Woodstock Opera House by Frank R. Stolfa, flutist, and John and Dolores Ffedrickson, violin and piano duo# The trio will present the fourth program this season of the Creative Living Series sponsored by the Women's guild of the Woodstock Fine Arts association. The selections to be performed are "Sonata" by Wilhelf F. Bach for flute, violin and piano; "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso" by Saint-Saens for violin andpiano; and "Serenade" by Eugene Goosens for the trio. Mr. Stolfa and Mrs. Fredrickson will play two numbers for flute and piano. They are "Sonata No. 5" written by Mozart at the age of eight years; and "Reverie and Petite Waltz" by Caplet. The program will close with the ^* -4 Zip*?- ; "' trio playing two interludes by Jacques Ibert. Tickets will be on saleat the box office. Anyone holding a series ticket may bring a -guest and have the ticket punched twice. Coffee will be served prior to the performance at 9:30 a.m. in the Green room of the Opera House. AT EASE . . .
