PLAINDEALER PHOTq Blue Streaks Shell Our Warriors 70-56 By Bert Hagemann The McHenry Warriors were shelled once again this past weekend by the first place Blue Streaks of Woodstock by the margin of 70-56. The Warriors garnered the grand total of 4 points in the first quarter, and 10 in the second, so that by halftime their doom was more or less sealed. The orange and black had some easy attempts go awry early in the game, and coupling this with an erratic defense the large McHenry following; could already see the handwriting on the wall; Once again the Warriors had a bad night from the charity stripe to match their paltry field goal production. You canj couple this with an inability to contain Rigby and Stoddard, the two Streak guards, and it spells defeat once again. One positive note in looking at the statistics sheet shows that we only had seven turnovers, and that we rebounded better than our larger opponents. Statistics also show a 29% shooting average against the opponents zone defense. However, the Warriors see a zone every week against everyone, as it is an evident fact that we have trouble shooting over or penetrating such a defense. We will probably see the same this Friday at home against the Tigers of Crystal Lake, who are also having their offensive problems* Last week they managed3,yes, 3points, in the whole first half against their opposition. Lef s look for victory number 3 this weekend against them, hope to see you there. Williams Street, Crystal Lake, telephone, 459-4455. From C. William Hunsberger, Souderton, Pa.: The cold, stark lingering days of Winter, with the skaters on the ponds and the sleders on the slopes bid return to memories hovering in the way-bSck memory file. Some of the ple a s a nt es t days of my youth were those bone-chilling days, of the long Winter (at least it seemed so to a youngster). Those were the days when schools were not so regimented and we could take o u r s l e d s t o s c h o o l . B e f o r e school, during recess, at lunch we frolicked in the fluffy stuff. We never had a fear of getting wet and catching cold. There was a good slope behind the schoolhouse and this added to our joy. Then, too, the frozen creeks in our town, the Perkiomen and Macoby, made for excellent skating. Most every afternoon and evening you could find the town gang gliding across the frozen water. A crackling fire added warmth to the scene. Those days are gone but not forgotten for us. Thankfully, many of our children today have the chance to undergo these Winter experiences. It's a real thrill to see the skaters slipping around on the man-made ponds and the old creeks which have survived the ravages of progress.
