The committee to conduct the 1969 Easter Seal appeal has organized and is planning its program to raise money for the Therapy center. Mrs. Bertil Dehlin, Crystal Lake, is the 1969 campaign chairman. The drive begins in about another month with the mailing of an Easter Seal letter and Easter Seals to more than 16,000 families. Through its program of physical therapy and speech therapy, the center helps people from every community in Mc- Henry county--the only rehabilitation center in Mc Henry county. Nearest outside the county is Rockford or Chicago. The campaign fund goal this year is $21,000, Mrs. Dehlin said today--$5,000 more than a year ago when $16,000 was raised. "More money enabled the center to do several things in 1968-69, including expanded service," she recalled. 1) The Therapy center was able to send two handicapped Ceramic Wall Tile sq. ft. 5/ $ 1" x 1" CERAMIC children (instead of one) to a three-week summer camp for handicapped children. 2) The Therapy center was able to continue its programs of year-around physical therapy, free short-term loans on orthopedic equipment, free summer swimming program for handicapped children, and special social functions for handicapped children. 3) The Therapy center expanded its speech therapy to a year-around program, instead of a seven-week summertime service. It will help youngsters who take speech therapy in school to have help in the summer months, too. "This Easter Seal campaign is vital to our center's welfare," Mrs. Dehlin recounted, "for we receive no money from federal, state or local taxes. Mrs. Dehlin stressed that treatment is based on a person's ability to pay, and no one is turned away because of a lack of funds. The Therapy Center is directed by Robert Steffi, professional physical therapist, who has been a guiding -force in expanding the services and quality of this 18-year-old organization. A volunteer board of directors, composed of thirty men and women from throughout McHenry county, gives yeoman service, too. Mrs. Dehlin is a board member as ar$ all members of this fund drive commit^/ tee. The board plans the center's programs and provides supervision for its staff. They also work with other interested community organizations to do all they caji to help handicapped persons in this county receive the best treatment possible. Campaign committee members include Mrs. Dehlin, chairman; William Baker and Mrs. Louis Duddleston, Crystal Lake; Howard Fiedelman and Mrs. Homer Mann, Woodstock; and Dan Justen, McHenry.
