FAR-REACHING FUND More than $7 million raised each year through the American Catholic Overseas Aid Fund makes it possible for Catholic Relief Services to maintain worldwide programs of relief and development that have a total value of $155 million annually. What's A Number? Franklin Delano Roosevelt was identified on his official inaugural medals as the 31st President of the United /'•ates. Some people hold, and some do n o t , t h a t s i n c e Grover Cleveland was both the 22nd and the 24th President, Roosevelt actually was the 32nd TROOP 295 On Saturday evening, Jan. 25, Troop 295 held an international dinner at Faith Presbyterian church. The dinner began with a most appropriate grace: "So many Gods, So many Creeds, So many paths that wind and wind, When all this old world really needs, Is for all of us to be more kind." We then started for the dinner line-up with such exotic dishes as tropical island salad, dried soybeans, stuffed dates, Czechoslovakian pastries, lasagna, Norwegian meatballs, and good old American baked beans and hot dogs. After parents and Scouts finished their lavish dinner, the entertainment began. It started off with an American folk duet, "If I Had a Hammer," sung by Susan McMillan and Rao Dee Beno. Veronica Bierman and Linda Apel then directed the Phillipine Dancing Sticks, with all of the girls taking turns. They then persuaded Mr. Landre and Mr. Barry to join the fun! Snap! Oops! Mrs. Marcotte got into the act, and with a camera to boot! After the dancers returned to their seats, in flew two blackfaced angels (Sue McMillan and Rae Dee B J ;•) singing the Negro spiritual, "Swing Low Sweet Chariot . Linda and Roni then re-entered the scene, doing their rolicldng skit of "Ma and Pa." The girls finished the entertainment with a singalong. After finishing with " Taps" and a friendship circle they retired to the kitchen for K.P. The leaders in charge of the dinner were Mrs. V. Johnson and Mrs. R. Roberts. What appears as only a blur without their "specs" swings into sharp focus, once they've put them on. If only there were glasses we could don quickly when we need to put ourselves, our problems, our successes and our failures into proper perspective! But that kind of lense has yet to be devised. We all have moments when we seem to be groping and nothing comes clear. We wonder where we are going and, perhaps, why. We have such moments whether or not we go to church on Sundays--for the Church will not give us spectacles, rose-colored or otherwise, with which to view the world. But . . . the Church does teach us of God's world, it does teach us the meaning of Faith, it does show us life in its proper light. Try going to church.
