FEB. 19f 1969 PLAINDEALER - PG. 11 McHENRY AREA YOUNG PEOPLE STUDENT TEACHERS More than 400 Northern Illinois university students recently returned after nine weeks practice teaching in the northern Illinois area. During the teaching internship, which is required of all education majors, each student spent nine weeks at his assigned school. Students lived either in the community where they taught or at home. Under the guidance of skilled cooperating teachers, the college students gained experience in teaching, in planning lesson units and in dealing with children or adolescents and their problems. For most of the students, the first two or three weeks were spent in classroom and teaching observation as well as in consultation with the cooperating teacher. From about the fourth week on student teachers actually assumed the roll of the classroom teacher. Student teachers include Marlene May, 6819 N.
