SEX EDUCATION REVIEWED "Dear Editor: "It seems that not only do we have to review the films our children see but we must • be even more alert to what they are being taught in our schools. -"I want to urge all parents to be sure to go and see the SIECUS film strips before you allow your children to see them. "In an effort to alert parents as to the kind of 'education' that is being presented in this series, let me give you a rundown of just a few of the board members of SIECUS (information from "SexEducation in the Schools" by Dr. Gordon V. Drake.) "Dr. Mary Calderone, executive director of SIECUS, in speaking to 320 boys at Blair academy in New Jersey, declared, 'What is sex for? It's for fun..for wonderful sensation.. Sex is not something you turn off like a faucet. If you . do, it's unhealthy.' When a Blair student asked her opinion of premarital sex relations among teen-agers, she snapped back that each one must determine this for himself. She doesn't believe the old 'Thou Shalt Nots' apply anymore. In other words, God is no longer important and who would dare mention Him in a public school. "Dr. Isadore Rubin, a founding member and now treasurer, is also the editor of Sexology magazine. He was also identified in 1955 in sworn testimony as a member of the Communist party. One of his favorite concerns is homosexuality-- not against but for it. " Other members of the board "and associates of Dr. Rubin on the board of consultants to Sexology are Dr. Lester A. Kirkendall, Rev. Wm. H. Genne, Dr. John Money and Dr. Wardell B. Pomery. "SIECUS frequently recommends reprints of Sexology articles such as those written by rabid atheist, psychiatrist Dr. Albert Ellis. "There is a lot more evidence on the entire SIECUS program included in a pamphlet by Dr. Gordon V. Drake, a writer for Christian Crusade magazine, and I would advise all parents to read it before rushing into this program of sex education without morals which will effect our entire nation in the years to come. "Sincerely, "Dorothy Himpelmann It's nice to be handsome, but it's nicer to be nice. Pack 131 is having its annual Blue and Gold dinner Sunday, Feb. 23, at the First United Methodist church. Chow time is at 2 p.m. sharp. I don't think we will have much trouble with appetites at this hour, especially if one had an early breakfast! There are six boys receiving the Arrow of Light award which is the only insignia earned in Cubs that can be worn on the official Boy Scout uniform. They are Pat Hiller, Mark Herrmann, Kenny Greaf, Ray IJellon, Anthony Fino and John Steinbach. These boys will be graduated from Webelos into Troop 131 and I am sure they will be a real credit to the troop. Stu Hoak, scoutmaster of Troop 131 will be present to officially receive you fellows into the troop. Other Cub Scouts to receive recognition are Mike Aim, artists award; Ricky Long, Bear award; Tom Kent and Jeff Flicek, Wolf; Kent Kellner, Jerry Wilson, and Tom Domeano, Bobcat. Chuck Pentozzi was elected denner and Lee Woodward, assistant. Troop 131, be sure to be on hand at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at the same meeting place. It's Parents' Night, Potluck, and Court of Honor. I know from past experience that your mothers will spread the tables with the likes of food you have never seen. With Mrs. Smith (Bill's Mom) heading up the affair, how can it go wrong? The patrol in charge of setting up is to be about one-half hour earlier so that means you guys must be there at 4:30. Just a little note to the Moms and Dads. The Scouts have been reminded that at least one parent or guardian or representative must be present before he can receive his award if he is due one. Please! '68 OUTSTANDING YEAR OF SERVICE FOR BOY SCOUTS Speaking for over six-million members of the Boy Scouts of America and the over 3,000 boy and adult members of the Kishwaukee district, 1968 was an outstanding year of service to the boyhood of the nation and the community. Nationally, the significant achievements of scouting were as follows: --The adoption of a dynamic long-range plan known as BOYPOWER '76 designed to bring the advantages of scouting's three programs, Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, and Exploring to all boys, regardless of race, creed or economic status. --Changes in all three Scout programs to make them more relevant to the needs and concerns of today's youth. --A non-Scout camping program that enabled over 25,000 disadvantaged boys to enjoy . camping experiences at Scouf camps throughout the United States. Locally, the boy and adult members of the Kishwaukee Don't make us the bad guys. If your Scout is not due recognition, come anyway. The mere fact that you are there shows him that you are interested in him and his activities. Post 131 is also hard at work planning future activities. For example, Saturday, Feb. 22, the Explorers and a few selected Scouts are going to take in an exhibit of construction machinery at the Chicago Amphitheater. Other plans include a trap shoot and participation in«the Scout-O-Rama. More details on these later. --- I forgot to mention that the Explorers held their elections Monday night, Feb. 17. Ken Betts was elected president, Phil Russell, vice-president, and Jack Weichmann, secretary and treasurer. Finally, remember that a smile takes less effort than a frown. Tom Russell Fri/Feb. 21, 1969 - Plaindealer - £ec. 2, Pg. 5 & district, with the support of the citizens of this community, proudly report that in 1968 they achieved the following: --Conducted two major good turns that included conservation and civic improvement projects throughout the county and Goodwill collection. --Greatly expanded Camp Northwoods and Lowden to permit over 2,000 boys to enjoy camping experiences. --Increased membership considerably beyond the BOYPOWER '76 goal to a total of 2,514 boys and adults. This record could not have been achieved if Scouts had not received the personal support of the business community and all city and countyNofficials, for which .they are most grateful. They pledge to continu^ to serve the youth of the community this year and in the years to confe. HOLY NAME TO VIEW MOVIE NEXT MONDAY The Holy Name Society of St. Patrick's Catholic churfch will hold its monthly meeting, on Monday, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. in the church hall. Highlight of the evening, according to John Rogers, program chairman, will be the showing of a movie by a representative of the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. The Retreat committee will meet immediately following the general meeting. Refreshments will be served. By the .time a child learns to behave perfectly, it is no longer a child.
