•\IWJ • here and there in BUSINESS ALAN M. MEYER Announcement was recently made that Alan M. Meyer has joined the staff of Central National bank in the capacity of assistant cashier in the Correspondent and Agricultural Banking department. The announcement was made by Frank E. Bauder, chairman. Meyer's function with Central National will be the servicing of correspondent bank affiliates in areas of Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Meyer comes to Central National from Mc Henry State Bank, where he was assistant cashier. Prior to his last post he was with the Northern Illinois corporation as assistant branch manager. He attended the University of Illinois, Illinois Bankers school and the Graduate School of Banking in Wisconsin. ATTEND CONVENTION The Fox Valley General Contractors association will be well represented in Washington, D.C., at the fiftieth anniversary convention of the Associated General Contractors of America, March 14-20. AGC members from this area who are attending the convention include Chapter President and Mrs. Warren Kuhlman, Tonyan Construction Company, Inc., Mc Henry. The national association has some 3,500 persons for the four-day contractors' meeting, which will be preceded by three days of committee meetings. Approximately forty-five AGC committees and joint committees with other industry associations will meet at the convention to discuss and make recommendations on such subjects as labor legislation, manpower shortages, union demands for more money, and siafety. ixmtm •JOINS I- CRM HAZEL OLSON Arnold N. May Realtor, with offices in Richmond and Harvard, announces the appointment of Mrs. Hazel Olson to the Real Estate sales division as its head. Mrs. Olson is from Twin Lakes, Wis. Mrs. Olson was in a Real Estate partnership in Twin Lakes for four years, then bought out her partner. She owned and operated her own Real Estate and Insurance business for eight years, selling in 1966. She has also been employed with an auctioneering firm, deciding to return to sales in 1967 to the original office she had sold. NEW POSITION Don Virgens will leave Northern Propane Gas in Mc Henry, effective April 1, and join Schroeder's Nursery, Rt. 60 (59A) in Grayslake. ATTEND SEMINAR Mr. and Mrs. Horace Wagner of T.P. Mathews, Realtors, Wonder Lake, will be attending the Illinois Association of Real Estate Boards Vacation-Educational seminar to be held in Curacao, Netherlands Antillies. Cliff Robedeaux, Milwaukee,v Wis., will be speaking on "Sales Motivation." Mr. Robedeaux is well known for his participation in the Realtors Institute of Illinois, which is held in Peoria each December. 1968 SALES Consolidated net Sales of Oak Electro/Netics Corp. for the year ended Dec. 31, 1968, were $88,762,043, compared with $92,301,256 a year earlier. AREA FUNERAL DIRECTORS HOLD APRIL SEMINAR " The Funeral - Relic or Resource" will be the theme of five Clergy-Funeral Director seminars to be held throughout northern Illinois. They are scheduled in Rockford on April 14, Rock ^Island on April 15, East Peoria on April 16, Champaign on April 17 and Hinsdale on April 18. Clergy and funeral directors from oach area will be attending. Helping to meet the psychological needs of the bereaved poses a challenge and responsibility for both the clergyman and the funeral director. Studies have shown that much can be done during the critical period of bereavement that will assist the bereaved to realize and adjust to their loss. This scheduled seminar will explore the funeral as an experience of value and the role of the clergyman and the funeral director in this experience. The keynote presentation will be given by Dr. Edgar N. Jackson, pastor, author, and lecturer, from Corinth, Vermont. His subject will be, "The Funeral: Relic or Resource". Dr. Jackson has specialized in the study of grief and bereavement and is the author of eight books, five of which deal solely with the subject of grief. V F V AUXILIARY NEWS by Gerry Breede June Schmunk called the March meeting of the Ladies auxiliary to V.F.W. Post 4600 to order. Betty Ann Heard, after reading of the minutes of the past meeting, read all correspondence. A notice, was received of the dinner dance" in honor of the Department of Illinois commander, Tom Russell, and the Department of Illinois auxiliary president, Alice Lynch. The date of this event is Saturday, April 19, in Belleville, 111. Other correspondence received notified the members present of the resignation of Ethel Groth n* three-year trustee. Little Company of Mary hospital nursing school reported on Lynda Abbink's grades. She is in her first year of nurse's training and we are especially interested in her progress since she is the daughter of our conductress. A thankyou note was received from Rose Brown, a resident at the V.F.W. National home for having remembered her on her birthday. On April 20 the Fifth district of the V.F.W. and its auxiliary will hold a memorial service at Post 6791 in West Chicago. This service will be in memory of all. post and auxiliary members who have passed away since Feb. 1. A letter from Rev. Kennedy, principal of Marian Central Catholic high school in Woodstock, expressed appreciation for the American flag which was presented to them by our Americanism chairman, Dora Krocker. Marge Moreth, Membership chairman, reported that we have 139 paid up members and we are approaching our 100 percent mark. If you have not paid your dues as yet, send them to Marge and make it possible for her to report 100 percent at the April meeting. Mary Kuemmel, Hospital chairman, reported that Kathy Fuller and Dora Krocker had accompanied her to Downey Veteran's hospital in February. The men had received prizes of canteen books and candy for games that were played. The ladies served doughnuts, fruit and coffee. She had also taken some paperback books which Had been brought in by members. The hospital can use more paperback books and stereo records, so if you have any of these you no longer need please bring them to the club. Neither of these items has to be new but in usable condition. Card Party Chairman Mary Kuemmel reported that the committee had been busy making plans for the card party which will be held on April 9 at the clubhouse at 7:30 p.m. Letters have been sent to the members and additional tickets are available from the chairman. Mary also reported that Alyce Kowal had been very busy obtaining items to be used for prizes. glorence Tussey, Sunshine chairman, reported that she had sent get-well cards to Gert Barbian in Sherman hospital and to Renee Jende in Me Henry hospital. A sympathy card was sent to the Ahern family. Vi Abbink, conductress, escorted by the Color team, then draped the charter in memory of three of our members who have passed away recently. They are Marge Mayers, Lottie Bransford and Mildred AJiern. Vi Schuble, Graves Registration chairman, reported that she had made the report on the death of Lottie Bransford and Mildred Ahern. June Shmunk requested Conductress Vi Abbink to escort Doc Riley into the meeting hall. Doc informed the members that the parents of the wrestlers from McHenry high school wanted to show their appreciation to the ladies who donated their evening by assisting serving and cleaning up after the pot-luck dinner honoring wreslers, which was held at the V.F.W. clubhouse on Tuesday evening, March 4. He then asked Vi Abbink to present the gifts to the ladies who gave of their time. They were June Schmunk, Mary Kuemmel,_ Inez Young, Dora Krocker, Vi Abbink, Vi's mother and Gerry Breede. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. Vi Abbink, Ways and Mtians chairman, reported that the kitchen clean-up has been slow on Wednesday evening, therefore, a Monday evening has been set aside. However, this will not be published in time for the next clean-up so if you can give some time for this, contact Vi and she can let you know when the next clean-up will be. It was decided that at a future meeting we will have a doctor guest speaker who will speak on cancer. Watch this column for further details. Marge Moreth was the winner of the regualr prize this month and Mickey Walters won the special prize. The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, April 14, which will be election of officers. This program makes it possible for teachers who are trained in nursery school education to become qualified as special education teachers. The course will be offered at Northern from June 16 through Aug. 8, and arrangements can be made for free tuition and a weekly stipend. The Special Education district is particularly interested in sponsoring someone for the program because they plan to establish a pre-school deaf class in McHenry county next fall. Currently these children are transported to Lake county. The establishment of a local program is dependent, however, upon finding a qualified teacher. Anyone who is interested in exploring this training program should contact Barbara Vogel at 338-3622. SHOP IN McHENRY spurgeons BANKERS MEET Group 3 of the Illinois Bankers association will conduct its annual spring meeting on Wednesday, March 26, at Pheasant Run, St. Charles. Group 3 includes 170 banks in Boone, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake and McHenry counties. OPERATIONS MANAGER JAMES I). LIGHTXER James D. Lightner, Nlodine's McHenry plant manager, has been promoted to the position of manager of operations -- aluminum plants, Modine Manufacturing Co. has reported. Reporting to A.W. Leafe, Modine's automotive and industrial division manager of operations, Lightner will be responsible for all manufacturing operations at the McHenry, as well as the Clinton, and Knoxville, Tenn., plants. He will continue to serve as manager of the McHenry plant and will use these offices as headquarters. A Modine veteran of nineteen years, Lightner joined Modine after receiving his BA degree from Whittier (Calif.) college. Shortly after he joined Modine he became chief inspector of the Whittier plant in 1951. He also served Whittier as a supervisor in production, and methods and standards before transferring to McHenry when it was built.
