\ Sec. 2, Pg. 4 - Plaindealer - Fri. March 21, 1969 Julie Novak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Novak, Fox River Grove, receives language training at the Easter' Seal Therapy center from Mrs. Maria Jones, speech therapist. Speech therapy is one of the programs provided the public by the Therapy center through contributions for Easter Seals. Annual fund drive is under way now. DON PEASLEY PHOTO EASTER SEAL THERAPY CENTER OFFERS SERVICE In many school districts, little or no speech therapy is available. Additionally children can benefit through additional speech therapy help during the summer and other periods the school program is unavailable. This is one place the Easter Seal Therapy center's speech ttierapy program fits in. Mrs. Maria Jones, a trainfed speech therapist, helps children and adults in a heart-warming manner. The problem may be simple, or complex, but professional help aids the person emotionally and improves his ability to communicate with others, Mrs. Jones observed. The Therapy center's annual Easter Seal fund drive is under way now, a timely moent to outline how your conibutions aid one of several programs provided by a professional staff and a host of dedicated volunteers. Goal is $5^000, and the fund drive concludes Easter Sunday. Letters i" to more than 16,000 citizens were mailed earlier this month. Mrs. Bertil Dehlin, fund drive chairman, and her staff of workers enclosed a sheet of Easter Seals with a report on the center's program. Besides the speech therapy program, the Therapy center gives physical therapy treatments- more than 7,300 treatments last year. It provides equipment on a loan basis, sponsors two handicapped children to a summer camp and presents a free summer swim program for handicapped children. "Last year's contributions helped the center expand its speech therapy program from a summer-only aid to a yeararound basis," Mrs. Jones recalled. She works at the Therapy center on a scheduled basistoprovide year-around service. Since Mrs. Jones began work in January, her schedule has been very busy; however, she now has time available for additional patients. Appointments are scheduled for examination of persons needing speech help, evaluation, and treatment. \NOW ~ Open Monday Evenings UNTIL 9:00 P.M. Benton Ph . 338-4030 Woodstock The Easter Seal Therapy center offers the only speech ther-„ apy clinic in McHenry county not connected with a governmental program, such as a school system. Here are some areas where speech therapy can be of vital assistance, Mrs. Jones summarized: 1. Language training for children who are slow in language development. 2. Language retraining for adults who have lost their speech because of brain damage caused by strokes. 3. Speech correction for children who have defective articulation or cannot say certain speech sounds. 4. Training for a person who has had his voice box (larynx) removed. 5. Training fpr the hard-ofhearing as they > can learn to speak more plainly and use their hearing to the utmost. Persons who haven't mailed their contribution are urged to provide what financial assistance they can to the speech and therapy program by mailing their check to Therapy Center, Post Office Box 326, Woodstock, Illinois 60098. . SET TEXT FOR LESSON-SERMON IN LOCAL CHURCH "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." This is the Golden Text of the Bible Lesson-Ser.mon to be heard at McHenry Christian Science church this Sunday. The subject is "Matter." Passages from the denominational textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, will include the following: "To ascertain our progress, we must learn where our affections are placed and whom we acknowledge and obey as God. If divine Love is becoming nearer, dearer, and more real to us, matter is then submitting to Spirit. The objects we pursue and the spirit we manifest reveal our standpoint, and show what we are winning." In Christian Science society, Lincoln road and Eastwood lane, the services begin at 10:30a.m. News About Our Servicemen Army Specialist Four Edward R. Schlief, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Father John Strazalka, Pastor we've been expecting you On a busy night in New York--or any other city--it pays to be expected. After ou/ wanderings we crave welcome. There is somewhere else we are expected . . . and welcomed! Here is an aspect of religious concern which isn't emphasized enough: Whatever you've done about it, you are conscious of the fact that you need God. But are you aware also that God needs you? Or, putting it another way, do you realize that one of the churches in our community has been expecting you--waiting for you to add your strength to that of your neighbors, your brothers in faith? You don't need a reservation. Only a reverent heart. Copyright 19R9 Kcistrr Ad' S, />!<• . .Srrnsburg. Va.
