It is very interesting to watch the white and black hooded merganser make repeated dives for small fish in the ponds. A few boys have also shown up at the ponds with fishing equipment, attempting to catch some of the small fish. BACK FROM COLD COLD FLORIDA Mr. and Mrs. Albin Johanson are back from Florida after being gone for three weeks. Mrs. .Johanson said she never realized how much she loved vV hispering Oaks until they made this last trip to Florida. The first thing, they were caught in a snow storm in the Tennessee Mountains. Snow plows did not come for two hours. There were no gas stations around to get gas, so consequently they could not run their car for heat, so they got awfully cold. Then when they •got to Latona, Fla., their first Barber Shop * • Hair Coloring * * Hair Styling £ • Hair Pieces * Razor Cuts JANE'S by appointment S85-7771 destination, they went fishing and all they got were crabs and poisonous porcupine fish. They thought they would try a swim in the Atlantic, but only the young at heart dared to go in, too cold, so they brought back dry swimming suits. While there, Mr. and Mrs. Friedland from 4505 Sussex joined them. Also another couple from Park Ridge. From there they all drove to Boqa Raton, to the Bible Town, where they were featuring the glorious music of Easter with John W. Peterson, world's outstanding publisher of sacred music. They all stayed on there for a week. The Friedlands enjoyed the Cyprus Gardens and were thrilled at the Lion's Safriwest . of Palm Beach. The lions roam around as they like, and one must keep all car windows closed, the guards were ever ready with their guns. Now the Johansons and the Friedlands are home, and will stick close to home for awhile. MISHAP FOR MR. E. DAVIS" Mr. Davis of 4605 Ashley had a ^terrible fall at a nursing hoiriS^in Geneva. He was there visiting his mother, and was asked to help in fixing some lights in the basement, and in going down he tripped on a loose stair molding and fell all the way down to the cement floor, his glasses broke in pieces cutting his eyelids badly and his teeth came through his lips. He could not sleep for several nights for the lack of breathing properly. We hope he will be O.K. soon. Mr. Boetter of 4609 Ashley, who fell down the stairs in his home about six months ago, has been feeling better all the time, he paid a visit to Mr. Davis, each having a similar experience to talk over. They heard Governor Ogilvie deliver his annual budget message. What was interesting to the C'aldwells was to see the $600 dollar group of educators from Cook County lobbying in behalf of state aid for public schools. They however did not accomplish their purpose, for. Ogilvie recommended only $500 dollars per pupil. There were many bus loads of club members that drove down to Springfield for their cause, they wore $600 dollar bills on their suit lapels to make it very effective. The Caldwells also stopped in to see Robert Furry. They stayed at their home while in Springfield. He is now associated with the state educational department. They also stopped at Antioch, to help celebrate their son Bob's birthday. here and there in BUSINESS AWARD PROGRAMS Officials of FS Services, Inc. has announced that FS and the Illinois FS county member companies will sponsor the 1969 awards program in the annual state 4-H Club X-Tra Yield activity.
